Emerson? Isn't that a country band? Oh wait...

i can remember a few yrs back when 154CM was the bomb, & its still a pretty good steel, holds and edge well/not too bad to sharpen, nothing wrong with it at all, & more than a few 'smiths still use it for customs.

that said i wish EKI would start using some exotic stuff in if nothing else some special editions or in the custom line, IIRC except for damascus every single thing production or custom is either ATS34 or 154CM, which really other than the ATS34 being made in japan and the 154 being made in the USA are about the same thing,

but, still, nothing wrong with 154 either.

imho he uses a stainlesss steel because his knives are marketed to the military especially the SEAL teams and corrosion would be an issue with them.

The idea of limiting your materials to a few tried and true is not unusual. It simplifies inventory, and especially with the blade steel, allows you to learn to do it right. How many latest-and-greatest steels does Bob Dozier play around with, and how long has D2 been around?

Correct, Esav. The same can be said for A2. My A2 knife has been my sharpest blade that has cut the longest, between sharpenings.
