How do you spoil a already incredible knife???? You give it a mirror death edge. It takes me some time (3-4 hours) to put a edge on a blade like this. I use a diamond Lansky system taking the one edge down to 25 degrees. I only put this amount of work into a blade that is worthy and that I really like. I did it to a CQC-11 a few years back and was amazed how well the steel responded to a razor mirror death edge. Easy maintenance after the initial sharpening. I call it a death edge because its one of those edges that will cut you just looking at it. The edge that if you barely touch it, you are bleeding. The Saber blade shape of the CQC-8 screams for this edge and looks scary as hell in person. . I am very pleased how it came out.:triumphant:
Time for a drink and cigar.

I wanna show off too ! 'Cept this is a 7V that I reprofiled into a full V-grind.

I use a Wicked edge to set the bevel, then the paper wheel strop to polish the edge. This one took a bit longer on the WE because one side had no bevel, and I re-cut the original side to bring it to about 32 degrees inclusive. Once the bevels were cut with the 100 & 200 grit stones (about 20 minutes), progression to 1000 took about 5 minutes. The paper wheel strop polishes both edges in about 2 minutes.

I'm gonna do my Journeyman next.

Wow....impressive. nothing better than a mirror edge. Just screams bad@rse......

Ok, just did my Journeyman and sharpened it on the WE to 30 degrees inclusive. I took pictures with my watch so you guys can see the progression.

Started at 9:25pm. The edge was at 32-33 degrees inclusive at this point.

after the paper wheel strop. I was actually done at around 9:53pm, but I was trying to take a good pic of the edge with my watch in the foreground:

Are you moving the stone into the cutting edge or away from the edge or both with your system????

When reprofiling with the 100/200 grit, I do it in both directions until the bevel is set. Then away from the edge to raise a burr with the 400 grit and up.

You guys are making it very difficult to save $. The Journeyman and the 8 are both on my list.

I wanted a Journeyman for a long time, as I really liked the blade shape and that it's a full-sized knife. The 8 also appealed to me for similar reasons, but for upswept or trailing points, the Persian has been on my radar ever since I got to handle one at a show several years ago. I could only get one and chose the 10, which I think is the most comfortable Emerson to hold. I do have a couple of Persians en route to me though, and one will be heading to Thailand shortly after getting here :)

I agree about the 10's grip. I actually asked EKI if I could get a tanto blade (ala 7) made for one of my 10's, but was told no unfortunately.

Having my morning coffee, I saw one innocent water bottle on the counter....... I had to:D
