Regarding Emersons. Has anyone who finds the wave a little gimmicky and unnecessary ground it off? I'm interested in whether folks were pleased with the result or if afterward you thought, holys***; I just ruined a $200 knife!

I posted a thread a couple weeks or ago asking for recommendations. I was thinking of getting either a small Sebenza or a Strider PT. In the end, for 2/3 the price of one of those, I bought an HK 14210 with which I am really pleased and ordered a Mini CQC 7 from gpknives, hence the question about the wave.

"gimmicky" nope, it just plain works. Removal should be simple IF you are familiar with metal, polishing, ect...

Or you could always sell the knife and look for one made without the wave. the Mini 7s are somewhat in demand I think.

I don't remember what Bladeforum thread it was from (I think a 1 or 2-year old sale thread?), but I saved this picture of a modded Emerson CQC with the wave ground off. IMO it looks pretty good, so it's definitely possible to make it work if you have the equipment and skills.

Whatever you do don't ask CharlieMike I Know he won't give u any advice or help you!!

In case you don't know CharlieMike he waves every knife he can.

I think you can send it in to Emerson and they'll de-wave it for a fee

They also sell them without the wave too.

You are right, I was thinking of the CQC-7A. Less than .5" blade difference. Might be trouble in some places.

I love the handle:blade size ratio of the Mini CQC 7. I've got pretty big hands and the 4.25" handle with the 2.87" blade really works for me.

Wow, I really thought they made them without a wave, guess not. Learn something everyday.

Although I think it's blasphemy, I could de-wave it if you don't have the tools. I won't charge anything... Just cover return shipping.

I think Philip Dobson did that one. The dewave and custom scale.

To CharlieMike. I really appreciate the offer, particularly given (what I hear) is your love of the wave.
What I was thinking of doing- first take the knife apart. I have a bench grinder to take off the bulk, hand file the rest to shape, then polish with a fine grit sandpaper. Any thoughts?
Honestly, I will probably carry it a bit before I commit. I may grow to love the wave.

I would leave the wave on. It's not hurting anything. Who knows? Someday you may decide to sell or trade the knive.

+1. To me, the wave is a very nice feature that sets Emersons apart from other folders. I'd absolutely stick with it. As Oopik said, it's not hurting anything.

I had a CQC 14 that I cut the wave off using a Dremel, with some cut off discs. I went very slow as to not heat the blade up. It came out very nice once, I loved the look, especially when I finished it off with some buffing discs. I personally don't care for the wave feature I don't need to deploy a blade that fast and sometimes unexpectedly. Especially when I'm balancing at the top of a ladder. Just be aware that your warranty will be void if you do this. IIRC Emerson will do a de-wave and that should keep your warranty intact. Man looking at that picks really makes me mad that I sold it:mad:

I cant imagine wanting to de wave an emerson knife, however if i was going to commit high knife treason id send it in to emerson or buy a mini without the wave. Makes my skin crawl just thinking about de waving an emerson, may i ask why you'd want to remove it?
