Emerson or Millie?

They're different, yes, but just as functional - the technique required is different.
I dunno, folks, but I'm leaning towards the Emerson here. I'll have the chance to handle the knife before buying it, so I should be sure to get a good one.

I'll probably pull the trigger in the next month sometime, at which point I'll be sure to get a nice knife-porn thread going. Thanks to all who contributed their opinions and experiences. Thumbs up!

I used to have an old Benchmade (Emerson) CQC7...THE KNIFE to have back in the day! Looks like the grinds he does do not go as far toward the spine as they did on the BMs... MAN I don't like that... It was ALMOST acceptable on the Delica, but it is much thinner stock than Emerson uses... The Millies Full Flat Grind is a thing of beauty... totally robust, and totally thin at the edge, and the most functional blade I've ever used... (Para is no slouch either).

I like the looks of the A100... I like the simple lines... and always liked the simple flat head screw on the pivot of Emersons... I FINALLY got to handle one at a gun show a few years back, and was completely disappointed with it. Some things like the lock barely engaging the tang can be fixed just by opening and closing 1,000 times, but that blade grind... At least if it were a true Scandi grind, it may be useful... The liners and G10 did not match up nearly as well as a Spyderco... LOOK at how perfect the nested liners fit in the Millie when you look at one.

I REALLY hope you get a chance to handle both before buying... IMO there is really no comparison here... Millie will blow Emerson outta da water!

Both are knives that revel in utilitarian beauty. Function over form which many people like and just as many people dislike. It seems to me that despite of different the two knives are they are actually more similar then dissimilar.

I’ve had a military, I’ve never had an emerson. I regret letting my military go. I can wait on the emerson.

It’s a lot more uncommon to here someone being unhappy with the military.

I'm new to this but I love my new CQC-8, with wave.

The knife is most certainly ready to use right out of the box. Sure, it breaks in with use and gets better, but that isn't a big deal unless you are looking, hard, for something to have a problem with. I had mine broken in after a few days.

The wave feature is, for me, extremely reliable out of some pant pockets and slightly less out of others. Some practice, and finding the right technique, definately helps.

I'll be getting a Military next month for my birthday, though, I believe. Isn't that the motto of, well, every special interest/hobby forum there is? When in doubt, get both! :)

I have owned both and love both, but the CQC-10 is one thick chunk of 154CM.... It is very tuff..
Check out this video by one of my youtube buddys, Bast2a, he does some pretty interesting things with his CCQ-10 like hammering nails into to wood with the spine of the blade and then pulling them out with the deployment hole, he has customized the handles in some of his other vids. you can check them out if you go to his channel.

Look how thick the spine of this blade is..

I've currently got Emerson La Griffe, Raven, Commander, and CQC-12. All great knives with excellent ergonomics, fit & finish, and edge-holding. I carry my S30V Military. I just find it a better general purpose knife and very convenient back pocket carry.

My qualms with the Millie:
-Tip Down Only
-No Wave (and even a bit of zip-tie couldn't fix my problem, being as it's tip-down only)

What activity/task could possibly be so urgent that the half-second lost on the draw without a wave and tip-up makes it a deal breaker?

Self defense. I carry a gun and having a knife to defend against an attempted gun grab is a good thing. Right now I have only the knife because I am in the USVI. As such I would prefer the waved Emerson. A half second is a LONG time. I also have the training anf force on force training to know what works for me.

But like I said earlier I intend to get the Millie soon. I will likely carry both. I am an EDC nut and wear jeans or kakis with many pockets full of fun stuff.

If I had to carry a SD specific knife I'd go for the P'Kal rather then an Emerson.

I own the Miltary, as well as a few Emersons. I love the Miltary, but an Emerson finds it's way into my pocket more often. As for the wave, I wouldn't buy a knife just because it had the wave, but I wouldn't rule it out either. Same for tip up vs tip down. It just doesn't matter. Some don't like Emerson's grind, but I say try it, you may like it. All in all, I'd get whichever one looks better to you. These knives are so close that whichever is more visually attractive to you, will be the one you like better...
