I wouldn't recommend buying an auto, which you don't like, just to get a knife that looks like a model from another maker that you do like. The knives are going to be different enough so that you won't get a good feel for a Strider PT by handling the Protech PT.
I have a Protech CQC7A now and I've had several Emerson CQC7As in the past. The knives look similar because the Protech is based on the Emerson, but that's where the similarities end. When I Handle the Protech 7A, it's a good bit different than handling an Emerson 7A. I suspect that the same wil be true of the Protech PT vs. a Strider PT.
Having said that, I'll add that I have 4 other Protech autos and a Protech A/O. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised with the operation and dependability of Protech's autos if the spring issue is the only reason you don't like autos. And Protech's CS will support their auto knife customers no matter what your occupation or location in the US.
