Hello, as you can probably tell I'm new to bladeforums and I now have multiple questions I've been curious about, any help is appreciated! Ok so,
1. How long can I expect the lock to last on an emerson through normal use and opening it quite often each day? Because after about a week and a half my cqc-7 is at about 80%. It's still solid but I'm just curious.
Also has anybody had problems with the new standoffs? Because I have now had 3 either not let the screw go tight or it just spins with the screw and won't go tight? Something I'm doing wrong or what because I'm making sure I don't torque it down hard but it does kind of annoy me.

And also on their customer service last week I had emailed about 3 times and never got a response, ended up calling and they never got any of my emails, I've gotten responses from other people I've emailed though.
I'm not one to complain as I really do like these knives but just some concerns, and thanks I'm sure I'll be posting more often here!

I've only ever had to contact them once, and it wasn't for any particular knife. I made a phone call.

My experience with EKI service has been positive. They are polite, efficient and fast.

As for the 80% lock, are you referring to 80% of the tang is covered or 80% of the liner lock is covered?

80% of the blade tang, I'm curious to see if it'll keep going or settle there

Can you post a pic of the 80% lock up? Have you taken your knives apart for any reason? This can impact the way they lock up and lead to stripped screws.

Don't wave your knife excessively.

And an easy fix for changing the lock up is to rotate your stop pin.

Yes I've taken it apart a couple of times to clean it out and smooth it up, but I've always been super careful in using the right size screwdriver and never torquing them down hard. Once again I'm not complaining as I hate complainers but it's a concern

I wouldn't worry about the % lockup unless you develop blade play. My sister's CQC-7 has been at 90% for a few years and there is still no blade play.

1. Long time.
2. No issues with standoffs, works fine everytime. Ensure you have a quality screw driver though.
3. Response in my case took a month. But since I am never in a hurry, it doesn't matter - being on bladeforums is testimony to having more than one knife, so nothing is urgent anyways. They were very polite, and offered to replace my EDC-1 (I had problem with the pivot screw rotating without loosening or tightening).

I've heard pretty consistently, actually if I remember correctly Mr. Emerson himself said, that a phone call is the best way to get in touch with them. Hope that helps.

My experience with customer service was great but it was for a pretty minor problem.

I spoke with a gentleman at EKI about a few Emerson questions, his name was Ernesto if I recall. Vary positive phone experience with EKI customer service.

Won't make a difference yo, it's a floating stop pin. It can and will hit a different spot almost every time it's opened. Or it should anyway, provided there's no junk caked in there.

Hmm, well hey I'm glad that someone finally understands you, smile and nod...LOL!

I'm kidding, don't roll up your sleeves. Don't make me angry, You woudn't like me when I'm angry...

Couldn't resist... ;)

Your knife may lock up at 80% and just stay there. Emerson himself says his commander locks up really late but, that he would still trust it enough to carry into battle. If it really bothers you, you can send it in and there fix it up for you I know because I've done it. I've had some less that stellar experiences with the new back spacers, although I've since come around and now I prefer them. Just like you I had problems where the screws were just spinning and not tightening into them right out of the box. EKI sent me some new screws which fixed the issue, turns out the screws were the issue not the back spacers. You can contact EKI by going to the contact part at the bottom of their website that always works well. If youre looking for repairs you don't even need to contact them. All you need to do for repairs is print out the warranty repair sheet found on their site and mail it in with your knife.

And you really trust the statement of a master sales/businessman who's main goal is to sell knives? Jeez, some of you guys here would buy a polished turd if it was being advertised by Mr. Emerson.

I know you have. That's the way it seems to be for Emerson unfortunately. Having to send the knife back because of the poor quality control.

Yes, I'm sure you've had less than stellar experiences with Emerson knives overall.

I totally believe you! You know why? Because I have had this same problem with a few of the Emersons I've owned. And it wasn't the screws, it was the fact that they stripped out the threads straight out of the factory.

Getting back on topic regarding Emerson's CS; the few times I've had to send knives back to them, I must indeed say that they have been fast and efficient as another member said.

Their knives: "less than stellar". Their customer service: good.
