Emerson thumb disk delete?

Does anyone make a delete kit for the obtrusive thumb disk on the emerson style knives? I have a zt0620 and I found the thumb disk to not work well, and it kills a lot of blade length. I searched and didn't find anything, so I thought I would ask before I go butcher some stainless on the Bridgeport.

Can't you just unscrew the screw holding it onto the blade? On Emersons there is a screw through the spine of the blade holding the thumb disk in place. You can unscrew the screw, remove the thumb disk, and then you can use the wave as your opening device. The wave feature actually makes a great thumb stud substitute.

That is how it is now, but it looks unfinished and shabby. Like parts fell off or something.

And yes, the wave works way better than the thumb disk anyways. I have ridiculously strong hands, but my thumb still isn't strong pushing that disk left. Thumbs are strong open and closed. I'm pretty sure the disk was an afterthought of the wave.

I added a Pete Gray disk to my Mini A-100, and I like that better. Get a new disk, and I think you will be MUCH happier!

I suspect your technique isn't down pat yet. When opening the blade with thumb disk push up and left and it flies out. Make sure to not put a lot of pressure on the lock bar when doing so. I have been carrying the zt 0620cf for a few years now.

Once you get the technique down, it will be a breeze.

cant put any pressure on the frame lock. thats likely the problem. i have to hold my knife diffferently than i normally do to open it.

I slightly flick my ZT0620 while pushing on the thumb stud to open it. Extremely easy to open.

The problem is zt emersons have stronger detents than real emersons. The thumb disk works great on real emersons. Has the knife broken it yet? Maybe when the detent wears a little the thmb disk maybe easier to you. You could look into a larger disk.

I didn't mean to imply that the disk doesn't work because it does. The disk isn't in an ideal location because the wave is in the ideal location. The wave works very well for opening with the thumb, therefore the disk is redundant. Between the redundancy and the fact that the disk reduces the effective blade to less than 3" I don't see the point of the disk. If you are a knife fighter the disk wouldn't hang up in soft tissue, and overall length is the only real concern. Fortunately I am not a knife fighter. So yeah, I would gladly trade the disk for an extra 3/4" of usable blade.
