Emerson vs Benchmade

Thanks again for all of the info and replies. As it turns out I live within 1/2 hour of Discount Knives and Swords and ended up getting a BM 705 - plain edge today. It felt great when I handled it and is definitely the nicest knife in my small collection. I feel a new addiction coming on. :D Especially since the handgun laws in MD change drastically Jan 1st so there won't be much to spend the few dollars I have on those.

As a couple of you have asked - "Why a 4 inch limit?" I intend to use it more for pocket carry without a clip and wanted something not too large or bulky. Just an arbitrary limit I set. Bigger than what I usually carry, but not huge. I can see a larger one or two in the future.

The Spyderco I own is larger and I do like it, though I prefer the stud opening to the hole.

The BM 705 is just what I was looking for.

Wasn't calling him a troll, but that is the very tactic that trolls use. They always have a "been there done that" experience to help enforce their opinion on something. His sounds like one of those.

i can see your point.

but it really did happen. i wish it hadn't. i really liked the design of the knife. i still handle Commanders at shows 'just in case'. but no luck yet.

for comparison, a friend was handing me back my MT Socom (old model) open and dropped it almost exactly the same way (except on packed dirt). the lock disengaged and the blade closed just a few degrees, much like the Emerson.

i suppose my only comment would be that our opinions -are- typically based on "been there done that'" experiences. but, you're right, it's a typical troll mall ninja tactic.

It was obviously defective. I own a Mini commander that the lock engages perfectly. Pretty good luck I guess for my first EKI since every Emerson you have held has bad lock-up. Here is a pic of my mini's lockup. I would put it against any task I would ever use a knife for. JMHO.
