Emerson Vs Benchmade

Have had both an prefer the benchmades more. I also can't stand the crazy political stuff that gets brought up by Mr Emerson. Believe whatever you like but I get tired on the rants, stories and ego trips.

I think most Benchmade folders are just too small although I do own the large Rukus and the Bedlam which are both badass knives. I actually have 6 Emerson folders. I like the look of them but my CQC 11 came with the most off centre blade I've ever seen. Emerson himself most have been responsible for the quality control on that one and was composing one of his nutbar rants at the same time, so the blade ended up way right of centre. [ get it ?]
Hey Ernie! Shut your gob! [ and Ernest I'll meet you anywhere, anytime. You bring whatever you think your most badass folder is , I'll bring my CS XL Espada. There'll be no violence because you'll faint dead away]

I prefer Benchmade. Emersons always have liner locks, black g10, and 154cm steel. They only have one knife currently in tan g10 that I've seen. For me, Emersons are priced too high for what they are and I don't get excited by black g10 liner lock knives. If that's what I wanted I would get a Kershaw Skyline or something much cheaper.

I think that people like to start these kinds of threads just to stir up the poo pot.

The Emerson knives are LandRovers or Jeeps. Benchmades are Buicks, GMC's, Cadillacs and occasionally a Lexus.
Apples and oranges.
Emerson "should" get modern with better blade-steel, although he says 154CM is easier to sharpen in the field.
His knives do have great past use with Navy Seals (Marcinko), British SAS, and so forth. Benchmade has produced, on license by Emerson, a CQC-7 in past yrs. Since their license ran out, Emerson is now producing his CQC-7 design in his own California factory.

Off topic, but I have the same 806-1101 and its number is 232 of 400. Weird...

Good knives can be had from both companies.
I prefer Emerson's designs and Benchmade has the better fit and finish.

I prefer Emersons for their ergonomics, flawless blade grinds, customer service and design philosophy. I think that they are priced appropriate to their features and I have never been disappointed with an Emerson knife. There will be many more Emersons in my future.

That said, the Benchmade brand is excellent, although I have had some problems with edge grind symmetry and sharpness out of the box, issues that are easily corrected. If you can, handle a selection of both brands and pick the one that 'speaks' to you.

Frenchmade...I guess we frequent the same coffee-houses...
Nice knife, but I've never carried it. I look at it sometimes.
I think I'm more into blades about 3 1/2" or so. The handle design of this 806 puts my hand too far back away from the blade. Not a bad idea, I suppose, if there's another fellow trying to slice and dice you.
:) G'day,
Sonny

both knives are great and you won't be disappointed. For me yes benchmade offers better steels on their knives, but I love the ergos on emerson knives, after i held the first one I was in love, I know own 5 emersons and have owned a lot of benchmades but have sold all of them but 1. When it comes to benchmade, emerson, spyderco or Zero Tolerance I've found that all make a damn good knife, and i've never had any major problems with any of them. It's gonna come down to personal preference and what your looking for in a knife.

What's the intent? If you want somethin pretty and for utility go benchmade if you want something for fighting go Emerson, I own two Emerson's and 3 black class one blue class benchmade and for defensive tools the Emerson's leave the safe with me everyday

Own several of each (Emersons and Benchmades). Am happy with them all, but the Emerson mini A-100 generally rides in my pocket every day. A close second choice is the Benchmade mini Osborne 945BK-1 (perfect knife when dressing up makes a smaller profile knife preferred).

Honestly, we live in good times, with so many excellent choices.
