Contacted emerson today about sprucing up the old blade.its a cqc super 7.hands down best blade ive ever carried.in fact been carrying it since 2004.after checking on warranty i was told

$130 new blade
$45 spa treatment
$10 clip
$15 shipping/my estimate

So $200 for warranty work.guess id be better off buying a new blade..i guess i thought warranty would be a little more cost effective..am i wrong in thinking this is high?whats your thoughts?

I'm curious, what does the "spa treatment" include for $45 ?

On the service form off the website it says the spa treatment includes pivot bolt, pivot and handle screws, clip, washers, thumb disc and screw, cleaning and sharpening. I bought a well used Bulldog earlier this year off the exchange and sent it in for the spa. Came back pretty much a new knife. Took about two weeks.20180205_183717-2016x1512.jpg

If they recommend replacement then just get your blade re-ground by someone else. It can hold an edge for a long time.

Get a hollow grind while you're at it. That'd look killer on a Super-7. I plan on having it done to mine when the time comes.

Sounds good.thanks for the advice

Wow, that much for a blade is a little surprising. I have a serrated Commander blade that I had thought about swapping for a plain edge, but not at that price.

Last time I sent one in for resharpening, it was $19 just for return shipping, and it came back in a small flat rate box. "Premium" brand, premium pricing, I guess.

It is what it is i guess.its a hell of a knife eitherway.but even the best of them get wore down over the years.like i said 14years of use is impressive.ive bought at least 2 dozen knives to replace this one.but i just cant let this one go its been with for too long.i might just have to bite the bullet someday and pay the price.either way this will stay in my pocket..this like everything else is expensive.thanks for your time and comments

I love Emerson knives and have a bunch of them - too many, truth be told; more than I could use in several lifetimes ... plus back-ups and back-ups to the back-ups.

I have knives that look better, cut better and have so-called better materials, but I still mostly carry Emersons.

I like Ernie, Mary et als - good folk. I like and and share his views on many topics.

Now the other shoe drops: some of EKI's business practices don't promote the love - especially compared to some other production knife companies.

I will not say that it's like dating a stripper, where you have to take the good with the bad but ...

I hear you, and respect + agree with what you've said. As a small business owner myself, I'd like to point out that the universe of customers is much the same. Trying to make "official" policy to deal with that reality is very much a balancing act, as it must be equitable to both the wide-world-of-customers as well as to the workers comprising the company (their livelihoods are at stake too, not just an individual transaction/purchase). There are competing interests, and the reality is there are mistakes that happen on both sides.

I was quoted $125 for a Sheepdog reblade plus return shipping. Not paying that for another piece of steel that has both terrible edge retention and is prone to corrosion, that's quite a HT accomplishment right there. I'm just working slowly on smoothing out the edge ding (which probably shouldn't have happened from a plastic zip tie anyway) myself.

I'm confused, why is it just not free, from Emerson's website:

"OUR GUARANTEE. ... Your Emerson knife is guaranteed against defects in material and workmanship and has a limited lifetime warranty. This guarantee is voided if the knife has been abused beyond normal wear and tear or used beyond what are considered to be normal parameters for a folding knife."

Lifetime warranty, I've sent mine in and never had to pay a dime. Is the quote for price due to a need to get a new blade on there? Can you just live with a spa treatment and have it back to working order? If Emerson won't budge on the price I'd just get someone on the forum to do a reprofile and get the edge geometry back.
