Emotional Damage... dropped my 113

ok to "steam" it out a lot
wet rag and HOT steam iron , with rag on it use hot iron to steam the rag on the devet
should get close
The epoxy method will result in a much stronger fix. The method of using steam pull on the wood grain will slightly weaken that area of the handle.

You could fill the damage with epoxy and then sand it to form after it sets.

Don't get in a rush to do a repair. Before doing anything, why not send a photo to Buck and ask if they have a suggestion. Maybe they can do a replacement of the damaged scale. I assume the handle is Buck's "blue wood" and is a laminate. If it is laminate, steaming may not help a whole lot since the wood is saturated with resin. It looks like there is more damage than just at the end and the break may go all the way to the lanyard hole—see the attached photo—maybe a small chunk is loose. Do you think that is the case? If so, I would figure out how to deal with the surface damage before doing anything about the end.

Did the exact same thing with a Boker, and it did end up splitting out all the way to the lanyard hole. Like Bertl said contact Buck and see if they will help.

Maybe contact our moderator / Buck guru.. I'd bet he has a trick or two.

You have to stabilize that big chip. It looks lifted. Will it clamp back down? If so let super glue soak in and clamp it.

If not, A couple drops of super glue. Let it soak into the crack, a couple more drops let them soak in. Repeat until it no longer soaks in. The rough part can be repaired with super glue and baking soda. Then fine sand paper it smooth.

Thats why I don’t like bare head handles. I prefer pommels.

^^^ What eveled said. But make sure the superglue is thin as water so it will get down in there. If the chip has any looseness, raise it a little to help get the super glue down in there.

Steam helps raise a dent, but as Desoto said doesn't do well on stabilized wood, (that's the purpose of stabilization so moisture has little effect).

I have one last comment. Before you do anything be sure you have identified all of the problem and thought about all possible repairs. It's really frustrating to have fixed something only to discover that there is more to repair and that what you did repair interferes with some other repair that is needed. For instance, if you repair the damage at the end and then realize there is more damage towards the lanyard hole, you will have made things more difficult.

Well here's some updated pics... I gave it a light picking with my finger nail and it came right off. It's a user, so I think I'll let it ride until something worse happens. Then I'll probably send it back to buck... do you think I should sand or fill the space to prevent further cracking? Or just let it wear and build character?
