For the past ten years or so, my friend Mark Zalesky, editor of KnifeWorld Magazine, has brought at least one knife to the Oregon show with me in mind. For this I am ever grateful, as they are invariably interesting.
The Pearl in this pair is a case in point. It is old. It sports one of the earliest blade stampings that Empire used. And it is in nice shape! Thanks Mark!!
The other I got from a regular who comes every year from New York State!
I have a copy of this knife, but not as nice, and the chain is missing, so this is a nice complete knife to go into the Empire display.
Horsfall's was apparently a mens' haberdashery, and this knife would be a contracted accoutrement, for the reasonably well dressed.
If this is the original chain - likely - you can compare it to "boys" knife chains which were more coarsely linked.
