For the past ten years or so, my friend Mark Zalesky, editor of KnifeWorld Magazine, has brought at least one knife to the Oregon show with me in mind. For this I am ever grateful, as they are invariably interesting.
The Pearl in this pair is a case in point. It is old. It sports one of the earliest blade stampings that Empire used. And it is in nice shape! Thanks Mark!!

The other I got from a regular who comes every year from New York State!
I have a copy of this knife, but not as nice, and the chain is missing, so this is a nice complete knife to go into the Empire display.

Horsfall's was apparently a mens' haberdashery, and this knife would be a contracted accoutrement, for the reasonably well dressed.
If this is the original chain - likely - you can compare it to "boys" knife chains which were more coarsely linked.

Two wonderful Empires!! How nice to have such a wonderful friend ( Mark) bringing such goodies every year. Thanks for sharing.

Cool! The all-steel one is shaped like a Eureka Jack, too, isn't it?
Neat, I like 'em! :)

Charlie, please let Mark know that I really enjoy his magazine, the only knife magazine left that actually has anything worth reading these days. Very educational and fun, and I look forward to getting it every month.

These are two great old beauties! Beautiful Empires, Charlie. Thanks for sharing.

i very much like the all metal one. is it one piece folded double like a douk douk or is it two pieces. looks like the latter from the pix.

The metal jack is indeed Eureka-ish! And it is structured like a regular Jack - exposed springs, but the handles are also the liners!
I will pass all kind words on to Mark - he deserves 'em!

How long are these knives?

I do like the metal one as well (but didn't know whether or not to call it, "the little metal one"-- hence my question). Very kind of Mark!

~p, they are both 3" long - WLST territory!!:)

Thanks Trand, and everyone else who commented!

And this is why what you are doing Charlie to bring back the Traditional knife is so important, when we are lucky enough to be able to look at these beauties - it makes me realise just how important that the knife world of today try get back to this type of quality, and its starting to show now - we just need more.

My sentiments exactly...

Love that deep rich pearl, you're not likely to find any as nice today, thanks for sharing.

Well, I went back to bump the most recent Empire thread we have, in the interests of our recent trend of not starting a new thread for every time we tie our shoes!! More knives, less "twitter"!

This knife was found and forwarded by my good friend Tom from historic Winsted, CT, the one-time home of Empire Knife Co. It is a wonderful Swell Center Jack, with old time Pick-bone handles, and custom-sized Bollocks shield. First one I have seen of this pattern from Empire.

I would not have much use for the Horsfall's knife. You say it is for the reasonably well dressed?
