I hope maybe someone with experience with cutter and tool grinders can give me advice.

I use lots of four flute high speed endmills making my folders. I just purchased a endmill grinding fixture. This is the type of fixture that just lets you grind the end of the cutter. I use this fixture on my surface grinder.

My question is what would be the best type/grit wheel to use on high speed end mills? I am not running coolant. I only need to take .002 or so off to restore the edge and get them cutting again.

Thanks in advance for any advice given.

I reckon you're plunge milling the bulk and then remove the rest with side passes ?
Do consider going with coated carbides - these last forever and prices are very
reasonable these days.

Flared cup diamond wheel is what I have. That and a jig that holds 5C collets at a right
angle. The EM goes into the collet, collet into the jig, jig into the vise. The jig allows for simple indexing

The cup is mounted on the spindle. Strong light and a good magnifying visor = success most of the time :)

Thanks for the feedback guys!

I am only side milling about .020 max at a time. I mill the material out between what becomes the bolsters leaving a frame thickness of .032. The material is 410 ss . I know that 416 is basically the same as 410 but with sulfur added for ease in machining. The problem is I can not locate 416 in sheet the thickness I use. .138

The fixture I just bought is the one that has uses 5c collets and has the relief angle ground into the base.
