Endura 5 ever coming out?

To play devil's advocate, not everybody is a good sharpener. Some, like me, are simply proficient. That said, it's not difficult to add one in yourself.

Regarding the finger choil, even as someone who loves them, I agree. Spyderco already offers many designs with them, there's no reason to put them on every single one. Just in FRN we already have the Native, the Dragonfly, and the Stretch off the top of my head. There are plenty of options for either side.

But that's the thing, you don't need to be good at sharpening to make sure you are hitting the whole edge. It's all about getting that part of the blade on the stone. Just push the blade to the stone until it stops and adjust angle until it hits the edge properly. Same concept if it had a notch.

I am going to make a thread in maintenance in a few minutes, anyone that would like to share their opinion of a sharpening notch please do.

I don't think Spyderco has ever felt the need to release a new model/generation simply because there's been a "long gap" between generations. Take a look at the police for example. There are designs that have found their own balance and don't need much else done besides iterations on steel/handle material/etc. The Endura 4 is one of the best sellings knives (if not the most, haven't seen the numbers recently, but I'd guess Delica outsells it) Spyderco has. I think those would speak for themselves.

And THG, on #5 a metal backspacer would add weight and cost to a knife that has found so much success on it's price point. What would be the proposed benefit?

I pointed this out on another forum - much of the Endura and Delica charm is being very light and very affordable. Some would put more titanium and even ball-bearing pivots in them. $$$$$$$

I hope the Endura isn't ruined -- it needs to stay true to its form. I'm always happy to see new designs, but the Endura is optimized as a thin, relatively light lockback that puts a lot of blade in your hand for the size. I like the other fancy locks, but not on this knife -- the lockback is no thicker than the blade, very light, and allows a lot of freedom in shaping the handle.

Endura 5? I guess I'll just hold off buying the Endura 4 until I see what happens.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is ALL just consumer speculation and a simple thread started by someone dreaming and being curious because of the amount of time the current version has been out. Haven't seen any actual input yet about there being a new design!
I wouldn't put off your purchase in waiting, but just my opinion. :)

What is it that needs to be improved from the Endura 4?

Upgraded blade steel, deep carry universal pocket clip, F 22 carbon fiber scales, or solid one piece body like the lionsteel knives. Flipper, ball bearing pivot, need I go on?

Then this would no longer be even remotely a mid level economy production knife churning out in quantity, and people would complain about tripled price and longer wait times more than a lack of exotic materials!

...but now if we're talking sprint run... then yes, please go on!

I would agree with a deep carry clip option across the line though, similar to Benchmade option.
I'd say more than 3/4 of my Spydercos have aftermarket clips, except those with the sweet Spydie wire clips.

Also agree with previous recommendation to upgrade lock to be same as Native... and maybe similar stop pin design as Chaparral.

Yeah it is JUST speculation and dreaming! There is no "Endura 5" known to be in the pipeline.

I will meet the "better steel" and "deep carry clip" crowd in the middle, although as an avowed pocket carrier the clip is not an issue with me.

I don't doubt that you're right about that, but the benefits would be:
1) it would be overall nicer
2) there would be no issues reassembling the knife due to spring tension (although this can be worked around)

It's more of a "Dream Endura" because I probably wouldn't want to see the Endura at a higher price point, either.
