Endura FRN Scales Stiffness

I just got a Pacific Salt and really like the blade and action of the knife. It made me think maybe I should get an Endura

The one thing I don't like about the PS is the lack of liners in the scales. I prefer scales to be a little more robust and have some stiffness to them. My question is, how does the FRN Endura compare to the PS in this respect. Do I really need to shell out that much more $$$ for the G-10?

The endura 4 has nested & skeletonized steel liners. Mine feels great in my hand, no twisting or bending at all. My only complaint is that it came with a very obtuse working edge, something like 25 or 30 degrees per side. I don't understand why they would choose an edge angle that is not compatible with the Sharpmaker  I thinned mine out on a benchstone, but I'm no sharpening whiz and while I got it down to 20 degrees per side, I also uglied it up quite a bit. I keep telling myself that someday I'll send it off to be reground by one of our excellent forum dwellers, but in the end I simply find myself waiting for the FRN stretch which I believe will be my ideal EDC.

i have an endura, it has liners so it is plenty stiff i think. it moves a litttttle bit if i really squeeze on it

I find the Pacific Salt's stiffness to be fine, and the weight is very nice. I don't know of anyone that's found them insufficient (certainly I haven't), and if somehow you did it's got a warranty. I also prefer the blade shape of the Pac Salt over the Endura and find H1 to be a fascinating material. H1 is stupid easy to sharpen in my experience using a $5 mini medium Arkansas stone's edge that restored the serrated edge to paper slicing.

Get the Pac Salt in SE and buy a PE ZDP-189 FRN Stretch when they come out for an excellent combo.

Well, the FRN Endura has liners and is plenty stiff. More stiff than the Pacific Salt. If you're just talking about "needs", then you probably don't need the G-10 handle, but I like those, too, and it's nice to have both.

Thanks for the info. Can anyone tell me if the G-10 scales are lined?

Woo Hoo! It's on the way! I sold some of my under-used razor hones to finance it. I can't wait for it to get here! :D

I also picked up a Tenacious to carry in NYC. If I lose it to the police, I won't be out big $$$.

Sorry for blathering. I just psyched.
