Greetings everyone. I have been an avid reader of Blade forums for several months now; and wish to thanks everyone for their posts...good and bad :-D. Great insights all.

My post title has to do with basically an opinion poll. I remember reading that the Endura was Spyderco's best selling knife in sheer numbers. I enjoy the general utility styling of the knife immensely, and is my most carried folder due to its price, size, general appearance and function.

What I would like to know-- would anyone purchase, carry or like to see an Endura with a green (dark green) handle and 440V blade. Personally, I would buy one in a second. I know some would say that you could simply buy one of the newer models coming out, but they are not like the Endura, and it is a best seller for a reason. I have other knives that I carry, depending upon the assignments for the day; however, I carry and use the Endura the most.

What do you think?

Welcome to BladeForums. Glad you jumped off the bench and into the game.

I would probably buy one. I think companies should occasionally do something to highlight their "bread and butter" products. This could be a limited run or anniversary edition.

Hi Vorpal - Welcome to the forums! I'd love to get my hands on the blade that you've just proposed. If there is enough number to meet production quota, I think Spyderco may consider it.

It'll great to give the Endura such a royal treatment.

I used to have a frn endura with a dark green handle. It's nice to see knives in other colors than black.

I would add that the blade be flat gorund like the G 10 POLICE model and I would buy a few.
Since it would be G 10 I would prefer the old style ENDURA handle profile than that of the '98.

Heck, if we're wishing (hinting?), why not green G-10 handle and S90V?!

A green G-10 handle and 440V would cost a fortune. The point of the Endura is to be one hellava knife at a real good price. But I would love to see some more colored Enduras. If I saw one in OD Green or Dark Red I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I know Spyderco hasn't had the best of luck selling special runs to BF members before, but a run of colored Enduras around Christmas time (hint, hint) would be very nice.

I have to agree with you there, Disco Stu. I was considering the possiblity that since re-tooling was not such a big issue, as the knife was already in production, the price would certainly be higher, but not prohibitively higher. To wit: if it cost a fortune, then even I would pass; however, should there be a corresponding price increase to justify the correspondingly higher materials I thought the MSRP would remain in a reasonable area. I appreciate the input. It may be that the materials are simply too costly, will bring the knife out of reach, and therefore out of favor.

As Dirk said and Sammo implied, it's nice to see a "staple" showcased.

Anybody else?

(P.S. My name is not Freddie)

Vorpal Digits,

Maybe not a fortune to you, but a fortune to me. You have to consider, an Endura with G-10 handles is basically (but not quite) a Police in G-10. Which will go for around $110. That's already stretching my budget. Furthermore, you throw in that 440V and make the G-10 green, I'll wager you're talking somewhere around $130-$150. Maybe I'm not the best judge of price, but I think I'm close enough.

But, I do love the shape of the Endura. Better than all of the other Spydies I've handled. So I probably wouldn't be able to afford one but I agree: A green G-10 handled Endura would be very nice.

BTW, Welcome to the wild ride that is the Bladeforums.

Yep, fortune is certainly relative. While I don't think $150 for a knife that I will use and carry everyday would be a fortune, it would be relatively expensive, and therefore cost prohibitive.

Actually, I prefer the ATS-55 steel for general utility purposes, and find the 440V a bit too brittle. It just seemed that everyone was on the "440V bandwagon" at present, and I simply wished to know what others thought. Were I truly able to pick, it would be the dark green G-10 handle and the same ole' blade.

What would you do with the Endura to make it better in your eyes? (Aside from liners :-D)

Hi Vorpal. Welcome to the Spyderco forum. Glad to have you here.

Changing the steel and the color of the handle is not major. Some points to consider.

CPM-440V take twice as long to grind as ingot steels. Wheel ware is even worse. So there would have to be an increase if the steel were changed.

Changing the color of the FRN to Green is minor.

Changing the handle to G-10 makes it a new knife, and as mentioned would be in the G-10 Police model range. (new tooling).

Very little mention of blade grind?

Is color the only real issue?

If you make a G-10 Endura is it still an Endura???? Probably not, it's a completly different knife that has an Endura profile. I say if you wan't to upgrade do it with the blade steel and chage the color of zytel if you want.

A new color would be a big plus. The only knife I have bought this year that was not spyderco was a bm730.because it doesn't look like everything else.I think a lot of people are tired of black g-10.I would like to see different colored delica and endura models in zytel if nothing else.(I know too many sku's)I don't mean to complain(much)spyderco makes the best production knives availiable.it is just black handles are getting old.

Agreed. A colorful Endura, in FRN, would be at the top of my wish list. A dark red or bright orange perhaps.

Sal, I think what everyone is basically saying is that the Endura is an excellent knife with a very loyal following and the only thing we would really want change about it is to spice it up with a bit of color.

In thinking about this, I decided that for me, the balance was off. G-10 handles, 440V blade, but still with a midlock? Don't get me wrong, the endura's lock is great as-is -- on a $50 knife. But if I'm going to be paying the premium that a g-10 handled, 440V bladed knife calls for, I want an upgrade in lock, too. And if you know me, you know I don't think that liner locks are an upgrade from lockbacks. So that means, I'd want it to be a compression lock. If you think that this now sounds a little Vesuvius-like, now you know why I'm looking forward to the Vesuvius!

Thanks for the welcome Sal, and your attention. I didn't know that different handle material would classify the knife as a competely separate knife type, anymore than different blade material; however, with retooling necessary I can understand it from a manufacturer's standpoint.

Yes, another colored handle would be nice for casual use. A dark green or blue, a medium gray, or deep red (subdued colors, but noticeable...not navy for example). I also think that the black handle on medium and larger knives appears more menacing to the ignorant, non-knife observers and another color may help with their opinion of a tool/ potential weapon.

As stated before, I truly like the steel presently used for the blade, and the blade profile (I don't use it as a pry bar or screwdriver). Although, I would like to see how 440V would perform with the same grinds.

I think that the Endura would find a some new customers with the above mentioned colors. Certainly also with knife-knuts if the blade material changed as well. (The red color and style used for the Endura in the past, while hardcore collectors certainly would snap them up, as well as consumers who genuinely appreciated the difference, I did not like personally.)

But I'm just typing away from the top of my head, sorry for the long post. Nice to read the replies everyone.

A Military OD, Desert, or Urban Camouflage color would work great. BTW I'll take two!

Might be an interesting "Sprint" run.

(new term; a "Sprint" run is a single run of a model variation. The Carbon Fiber Civilian is a "Sprint" run. The Pink Delicas and Crickets were "Sprints").

As opposed to a normal ongoing model. Sprints are not in catalogs and will usually be less than 1200 pcs.

Red would be out though. We're making our "trainers" red and would prefer to avoid confusion. only the Ladybug is made red with a "live blade".

Dark blue, dark green, perhaps burgundy?
