Endura--- Green G-10 handle and 440V blade?

I must admit, Mr. Glesser responding with a possible, sprint run of knives at the suggestion of a customer, with feedback from other customers, is astonishing and speaks volumes for his commitment to his customers. And I know he has done this before, but it still amazes me considering other companies. Just the possiblity....

Any of the subdued handle colors would be great, but I already spoke of my preference for dark green.

I understand about not causing confusion with red handles. And certainly concur. I always wondered about red handled trainers. For me, red is indicative of danger (safety off on a firearm, lights, etc.). I always thought trainers should be yellow (more visible, denotes caution but not danger, also displays timidity :-) ) And of course the Dept. of the Army light blue trainer color, useful, but I never did like it, even when I was occasionally glad to see it.

The various camoflage suggestions were interesting. I am sure some military and SWAT personnel would enjoy them.

Why flat ground? I think the hollow is fine. Plus it would probably be a good deal easier on the good people at Spyderco, right?

Anyhoo, I'd like to see a burgundy. Dark red is my favorite color. AND it won't make my handle look bad if I bleed on it.

Vorpal, I too was surprised when I first came here and found out how much Sal listens to us Spyder-nuts.

First, the colors sound good. I remember getting all excited that I was going to be able to buy a Calypos Jr. Lightweight in burgandy and then it turned out to be just "for shows." I'm still hopeful. I thought it was a very nice color.

Second, blade steel. ATS-55 is a nice basic steel. CPM 440V is wonderful in my Military. BUT, it feels to me like Spyderco is trying to go to more VG-10 in their "premium" line. And I actually like it better. If it is cheaper to produce the knife with VG-10 then I would vote for that. A flat grind in VG-10 is going to be able to take a razor's edge. Any advantage of 440V would seem to be overruled by the relatively light-weight construction of FRN.

Hallo, everybody! If you check out the forum on Spyderco's own website, this has been brought up before. I think that the different colors are very close to happening. I know I can hardly wait! By the way, I voted for dark red (burgundy), dark green, or dark blue. Here's keeping my fingers crossed!!!!

Now you know <u>one</u> of the main reasons all of us like Spydies so much. Not to mention that they are also GREAT knives.

Dark red, (Burgundy) dark blue and dark green (Forest green rather than OD) all sound great.

I was thinking that a flat ground 440v G 10 Endura would be a Military Jr. would it not?
Having said that a flat ground ATS 55 green FRN Endura would be nice!
Then maybe a colored G 10 Military Jr. once they come out???

So do I, preferably flat grind. But I'm not the least interested in an Endura in G-10. Other colour FRN, yes; Preferably burgundy.

Let me throw another vote in for a burgundy handle, although a dark blue would also be a nice change from black.

For an alternate FRN colour for the Endura, I think any subdued "military" colour would be acceptable:

1. Olive Drab
2. Desert Tan/Khaki

The Endura is an edged tool, and colours like this would maintain a functional "tool look," without being the ubiquitous and sometimes wearisome black.

Now your talking!

A forest green endura, with flat grind, ATS-55 is where it is at!

Where do I buy mine from? That would make a great x-mas present to myself. Think my wife could use one or two as well

Ummm... the Military has a G-10 handle and a 440V blade with a flat grind.

True, it isn't the same as the Endura, but I don't think a comparison is out of the question. It's similar in size and shape. It DOES have the handle you described, as well as the blade. It's a linerlock instead of a lockback. Some people prefer that, some don't. It's only got one liner, which I think is a REALLY good idea, because knives that large with 2 steel liners tend to be pretty heavy.

Also, as previously said, the Police model has a G-10 handle. You could just change the blade steel and handle color. Not EXACTLY the same, but darn close. It's got a better blade-to-handle ratio, for whatever that's worth.

Just keep the similarities in mind before you go off and make a whole new knife.

That's right none are exactly the same, hence the proposition. Should everyone fixate on the similarities there would be no Military (there is already the Police, as was mentioned, and don't forget the Calypso--only the lock mechanism, handle and steel are different by that logic); certainly no Military, Jr. (we have the Calypso, Jr. in several incarnations and the blade profile will be strikingly similar I'm sure); why even bother with a Rookie, Standard and Delica all together since they are similar?

Using reason, I would opine that it is due to their being not EXACTLY the same, despite their similarities.

Making a completely new knife was not my intent nor my proposition. I proposed an Endura with green G-10 handle and 440V blade. Mr. Glesser was kind enough to point out that due to the material changes it would cause re-tooling and he would consider it a new knife. That is a manufacturer's point of view.

A semantic argument, but bear with me-- The Calypso, Jr. models remain Calypso, Jr.'s despite one having nylon-resin handle and VG-10 steel blade while the other has a handle of micarta and AUS-8 steel blade. One is specifically designated as a "lightweight" to help identification; however, both remain Calypso, Jr.'s.

My proposition was for an Endura with green G-10 handles and 440V steel. New knife...depends upon your point of view, exactly the same...no. Similar...of course, same as nearly every other knife in the line-up.

Previous posters and Mr. Glesser brought out the same interesting points which were simlply rehashed.

I cannot possibly "go off and make a new knife."

Dark "forest" green has my vote; but I would buy one only if it was the "old" style handle. I just do not like the new style; it feels strange in my hand.

I have an old style Endura with black fully-serrated AUS-8A blade that is my every-day carry knife. I suspect this is one of those "Sprint" runs, since I only saw it advertised in one popular vendor's flyer one time. I think I paid $29.95 for it; wish I had bought two.

Still waiting for the Military Jr... hint, hint!<G>

Steve

After the success the Endura has had, a sprint run is definitely due. The Endura deserves it! I'd keep everything the same, except a different color for the handle. Forest green was a good suggestion. After all, it answers the question, "Where's the money"?
