....Am I missing something? The Spyderco website lists it at 17$ and change, while Googling dealers results in prices way above:24, 25$ I really don't shop on-line enough to know if this is a normal mark-up. Since my waved E4 came in from New Graham a year and a half ago, I have had to contend with a backspacer that I jury-rigged. I would love to pick up the parts kit and fix it right, but I don't want to overpay for it. Any insight? Thanks-

Kyle

Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but isn't the norm for the manufacturer to keep the msrp at his/her site static, so his/her distributor can offer it at a reduced, i.e. wholesale, price? Ah, whadda I know???

I really don't think the parts kit is intended to be something for dealers to stock, so they may be getting it at the same price we do. Be glad they offer it instead of making you buy a whole new knife, or pay $25 plus shipping for non-warranty repair.

if you look at the knives you will notice this holds true, but parts aren't exactly a dealers item

Well yeah, but my curiosity is due to the fact that Spyderco itself has the cheapest price listed, (not complaining). For me, this is kinda unusual. BTW, it would have been warranty, IF I had only sent it back in to be repaired when I first received it. A testament to how much the Endura4 wave is liked!( By me, anyway.) I couldn't part with it, so I doctored it up on my own. (It works fine, no problems, . . .just want to get it back to factory specs.)

Every once in a while, Spyderco sells something direct to the public at the same price they sell to dealers and distributors. The Mule Team knives were done this way, and the parts kits may be done the same way. Since the dealers and distributors are in business to make money, they add their markup to what they paid to get the price they sell for. In that case, the SFO will certainly have the lowest price, unless someone else decides to sell at a loss. And yes, it is unusual for Spyderco to do this. The Mule is a special project, and the parts kit is not a knife, just repair parts. Generally, Spyderco tries not to compete with their dealers and distributors.

Sorry I implied your repair would have been non-warranty. I've just seen too many threads by people who have messed up backspacers by improper assembly since the fourth generation knives came out.

It probably should have been a warrantied repair, since I received the knife with one of the 'nipples' on the backspacer mushed flat. (The blade itself had a evil twist in the handle when closed.) But I was excited to get it, and so I rigged it myself (with guitar string and mastic tape!) to avoid sending it away. Can you blame me?. . . Well, maybe you can. It's a stout little fix I performed, but it's not...factory. I was just figuring out the cost when I noticed the price jump through distributors. My curiosity led me to ask what's up. No offense taken, BTW.
