endura vs. recon 1

Endura by a mile. I broke a Recon 1 during entry to a crack house. My Endura saved my ass.

the recon s i've held looked heavy duty. the endura which is a fav of mine is certainly strong enough for most cutting duties but i would'nt call on it for prying. really the 2 knives are in different job catagories.you mist have gotten a lemon with the c.s.

Admittedly I don't know much about the Recon, so I don't want my reply to sound one-sided. All I can say is that the Endura would be my choice. I've observed Cold Steel products (from afar) with interest and curiosity, but I've never quite had enough gumption to actually reach for one. It's like when you're happy with Foldgers. You see Maxwell House on sale and you ALMOST buy it, but in the end you grab Folgers because it's been there thru all the hard times. It just works. The Endura, it just works. Whoa. :)

i have a recon 1 it looks solid, feels solid, and it CS claims it's overengineered or something like that. Mossyhorn, i'm not trolling or prying but I would like to know how yours broke and what part of the knife gave. anybody else for that matter with any experience of a failed or broken recon 1 please post. I have heard CS being denigrated as some other forums just because of it's marketing. BTW i'm planning on an endura.

I really doubt that Recon 1 was broken, I have had this one for over 10 years and it's seen some very hard use including prying with it. ;)

Here is the newer one on top I have never used yet, G10 handles.

I have 3 Enduras and 1 Recon. Can't wait to get my hands on a Recon with the Tri-Ad Lock. The Endura is a proven design and one of my favorites. The Recon1 has proven itself to me and I think with the addition of the Tri-ad lock it will be even stronger.

Not a cold steel fan, but the Recon 1 is a beast of a knife for the money.
The spyderco endura is a great knife, but mainly for a slicer, I wouldn't try any real rough use with that one.

Depends on your intended uses.

I for the life of me can't figure out how a Endura would save your ass when entering a crack house? Breaking into a crack house with any knife just does not seem logical to me. I've several Recons and a couple of Endura's and still have the original model of the Endura. Anyways if I had to choose between the two the Recon wins out hands down. keepem sharp

I wouldn't pay that too much attention. ;)

Next time just show them the money and they'll let you in. I hope you had a good time.:p

Haha. as listed in mossyhorn's profile he is a "small" business owner (i don't know if "small" refers to his business or to his stature)of some sort. What he would be doing entering a crackhouse and how an endura can save his life in that context eludes me. Now if he was an LEO he'd be relying on more than a knife to "save his ass" when entering a crackhouse.
