whatever we have to give credence to experience of ankerson, i seen several videos of his knives chopping & he really knows what the meaning of hard use signifies

Thanks Dennis. :D

I will have more field test videos coming up in the near future.

Both folders and fixed blades. :)

The tri-ad lock is more than just a beefed up lock-back, it introduces a stop-pin and sandwiches the lock-bar between the blade tang and the stop-pin, absorbing the stress that would normally be placed on the lock-bar pivot in a traditional lock-back. This is a good thing because the lock-bar pivot is not a solid pin, it's a torx screw, so it is unlikely that it can handle as much force as the solid steel stop-pin. Even if the stop-pin were to somehow fail, the lock-bar pivot would still be in place to keep the blade from closing. The only way I could see this lock failing would be a complete break at the blade tang. The design is really quite ingenious in its simplicity. If you haven't seen the videos on youtube you can check it out Here. In this test the lock supports over 600 free hanging pounds. Pretty damn impressive.

As far as the knives go, I'd give the nod to spyderco as far as fit & finish and steel. I love my endura. But I'd bet the new Recon 1 wins out in lock strength.

I wish CS kept the shape of the bottom of the handle though. Too many finger grooves in most of their new knives coming out, IMO. I'm patiently waiting to handle a new Voyager though. That looks pretty nice. So far I love my American Lawman. The Tri-Ad lock is solid. It's made me abandon liner locks for the foreseeable future.

Id go with the Endura it uses better steel VG10 vs Aus8, its quite a bit lighter 3.6oz vs 5.6, and you get Spyderco quality. The Recon 1 does have the edge in looks, its a pretty bad ass looking folder:)

My Spyderco Spyderhawk is the same knife as the Endura, but with a hawkbill H1 blade. The lock is sturdy with very little play. My American Lawman with the Tri-Ad lock has had zero play since I bought it. IMO the Tri-Ad lock feels to be more secure, though both knives' build quality is excellent.

Ankerson,

The older Recon you have did that g-10 come like that or did you sand it down a
bit for a smoother finish? I think it looks really cool! I have a Recon tanto I just
bought but kind of wished I purchased the clip point like yours.

I've been carrying the same Recon 1 for years, on duty and off. Big, sturdy, and stinky-fast to open. Just relieve pressure on the axis lock and flick....
I've never had any problems with it whatever.
