Endura4 - not the knife it used to be

Handled one yesterday…
Embedded steel liners -fine, but it adds up weight. Lower saber grinds - make the knife sturdier, spoils cutting ability. Contoured handle - yes, bettter grip, but little more bulky.
4-way pocket clip, but I only need one (traditional tip-up, right pocket). Grooves on thumb ramp - good, but I still can't place my thumb over it for reinforced cuts (I like Manix better in this part).

Don't get me wrong, new Endura is great knife, but totally different…
So what in Spyderco lineup will replace it?
Looking for something light, slim, long-bladed, possibly full flat ground.

Oh, it was so obvious… I have SRKW Rat Trap with similar vitals already.
What I had in mind was Caly 4" or flat ground police. Heck, even Chinook offered now with that blade style!

Endura 3, perhaps?
There are still some around, but supplies appear to be dwindling rapidly...

The E2, SS version works better for me also. I tried carrying the SS E4, that lasted about a day and a half.

Yep, got Endura3 PE already!
maybe I should get another, just in case...

Must be nice to be right handed:p

I had lots of comments I wanted to add, but really, everything is personal preference, and while I disagree with most of your points, I can't tell you you're wrong.

Except for the clip. That's wrong:cool:

I agree. I just gave my brother my old E3. I'm going to buy him a new E4 just so I can have it back.

the Pacific Salt is basically an E3 handle with a E4 shaped blade in H-1, it basically only lacks the splinter-picker tip of the E3...

Bingo. And it's rust/corrosion proof to boot. I just picked one up myself.

Nothing better than a needle and tweezers for picking splinters.

Digging out a sliver with a pocket knife is like using a slegehammer to drive a nail.

I did, I bought a few "extra" Endura 3's about
a month or so ago. They're in the safe, in their boxes.
In case my carry goes missing, I know where to get another. ;)

Still, though, I think the VG-10 takes a better edge than the H-1 does.

Atlantic Salt maybe?

Personally I love the new Endura & Delica 4's. I liked the older Delicas & Enduras, but think the changes were an improvement. The biggest gripes seem to be the increased weight because of the liners and a less pointy tip. Well the weight change is minimal. If a change of a few ounces affects your EDC, then you are running close on your tolerances anyway. While losing the pointy tip may alter some fine detail tasks, you gain tip strength for other tasks.

Where some will no longer prefer the new Delica and Endura, others will discover them.

Yeah, but when all ya have with you is a sledgehammer.............

I think the FRN E4 is a dramatic improvement over all other versions, I own all variants of it and honestly have to say the E4 is the best. Added weight, yes but only felt in the hand, not the pocket, we're talking about an ounce increase here, nothing dramatic. Four way clip ends the gripping by the sinister class:rolleyes:. I never liked the barrel bolt, always rotated in the well no matter how tight it was. A slight increase in FRN scale thickness adds to purchase. I wrote a review for the Spydiesite, check it out if interested.

The shape of the handle also differs significantly between the 3 and 4. My hand feels more natural on the 3 than it does on the 4.
Then there's the slightly longer blade on the 3.

And, the increased weight IMO is not so easily dismissed.

Well yes, ultimately I agree with you - many, many folks do seem to prefer the new versions. :)

I don't get the weight thing either. My E4 is my workout knife, it gets clipped to my gym shorts and I never know its there. I do a timed non stop workout. ( crossfit) Today i ran 1/2 mile set of deadlifts, sumo deadlifts, dumbell swings. Three times non stop. never was aware of the E4.

If an ounce more is too much take the change out of your pocket......

or lose 20 pounds of fat. Then you could add 100 more knives or so.

I can see liking the thinner tip of the e3 .Myself i like the E4's tip .
