How do you tell the series on an Endura? I got one in a trade that I thought was an Endura 3, but I am not sure. From what I remember, it looks like an older model. I thought that the number 2 models were all SS, and that all first edition models were GIN1. This one is VG10. Stamp on one side is

Spyderco
VG10

and the other side is

Seki City
Japan.

I know the difference between a 3 and a 4, however, the blade seems a little different.

First generation = molded FRN clip
Second generation = stainless handles with clip screw holes on one side only
Third generation = FRN handle with steel clip and barrel bolt
Fourth generation = Four way clip screws on FRN and SS

There are other differences, but these are "at a glance" indicators.

Thanks. :)

The generation 3 Enduras (FRN with barrel bolt and clip, no nested liners, Pacific Salt style handle) was available in various blade-steels over the years...
Per the various catalogs I have:

1997 the Endura had an AUS8 hollow-grind blade.

1998 to 2001 the Endura had an ATS-55 hollow-grind blade.

2002 was the debut year for the improved Endura 3 with a VG-10 flat saber-grind blade.

2006 was the debut year for the new Endura 4.

I can't say what the Endura had prior to 1997.

Good luck,
Allen
