Engraved Metal Handled 110

thanks for posting that trax
i hadnt seen that one before do you know what model that is ?
it looks about the same size as one of those goliaths

Here's a pic of what 334dave posted - :barf:

Nothing even close to that. I saw this in that same shop in Maryland over 16 years ago. The one I saw was a lot more "artistically" done and looked like it has a heavy chrome job done on it. It was basically a 110 size.

It seems to be a 446 variant...334dave is the resident expert...just get a Captain Midnight Decoder and get ready for his comments... :p :D ;)

...Or maybe 334dave speaks Pillockian???

TLC or Mike Kerins - I believe I read in a previous post that this is an aluminum overlay riveted to the liner...is a standard 110 liner used, with the bolsters ground/milled flat??? Or does it appear to be a dedicated "flat liner" made just for the 111 Classic??? I'm sure you two have the experienced eyes to tell by looking which it was... ;)

I happen to like bolsters at both ends, although some here [coff *334dave* coff] have said they like bolsterless versions of the classic buck knives...I'm just curious as to how much trouble Buck went to to make a variation like this...
Trax, I hope ya don't mind my observation...

The aluminum is not riveted to the liner. There is no internal liner.

The rivets are through the spacer in the rear, spine rocker, and blade pivot.

So it's just the aluminum??? No separate liner??? The blade, spacer, and rockerbar ride right on the aluminum scales???

Can you estimate how thick they are??? I'm just curious, I'm not contemplating anything... :thumbdn:

I've never seen one of these [111 Classic], and I don't recall any pics other than side views...

Hi Trax...
Here are some pics. Let me know if they are not what you need to observe and I will take some more after my battery recharges.
Was gonna take a pic with a tape measure, but the batt crapped out.
The ovarall width is 7/16" Each liner is just under 3/16"
Can't find my calipers but that is using my aging eye and a tape measure.

Linked the pics since they are macro'ed and it won't clog up bandwidth for returning visits ;)

I can't speak to the number of polished banner 111s that were built but you can expect to find both matte and polished banners. Both 3 and four dot blades. Both polished and satin blades and the polished blades had dots and Buck Custom Tang stamps. Further, for those of you who go for the really rare stuff, five were made from brass with satin blades and matte banners. By the way, the handles are not engraved they are coined in a process like they make our pocket change. FYI.

Finally got it today! It wasn't quite as "mint" as described, as there were some scuff/scratches in the banners, BUT it was a 3 dot with original box/paperwork!

Sorry Joe... :(

It's a little too "wrought iron railing" for my own taste...

I like this one better - it's not really my style, but it's close... :)

No problem CT! :D
I have to admit that from a user standpoint, I like the one you showed there with the wood and brass better. I think I would change the handle material to something light but still metal. I love the blade shape of the Goliath but am partial to metal handles.

Must have missed the original "ugly" post. Don't see it.
I don't think it is ugly at all. Goes well with my Village People cowboy duds:

I like the design but feel the knife is too fragile for heavy use being aluminum.

NICE PIC B110!!!!

Page 1, posts #19 & #20...The snowflake Goliath...

Beauty is in the eye etc... :D

Oh. Thanks Trax. I thought it was in reference to the 111 Classic.
Having seen the posts you reference; Joe...don't quit your day job and I hope you have a nice visit with your mom.
