Engraving Non Stainless Blades

Alright, so today I decided to get my knife engraved. It's not a stainless blade, so it couldn't be laser etched, but it still looks ok. Especially for only costing $10. So, two questions:

One: Did I just give myself an unavoidable rust problem? I assume I just need to keep it oiled as normal and keep the engraving extra clean but???

Two: Are there better methods for engraving non stainless steel, such as 1080. I had this done on a diamond cutter.

Here is a video of the knife with it's new logo. :D

Just curious why you can't do it on the laser? Was there a limitation in the assist gases the laser shop had?

There is always electro-chemical etching, or FeCl etching for carbon steel...

You haven't created any problem that isn't there already, just use good maintenance practices. You wouldn't go use a gun in the field all day and put it up nasty, would you?

Nicely done video minus the bad 80's porno music... ;)

Hey, if I didn't say something to p---- you off it would wreck the rapport we've built up.

I was told that the chemical that was used for laser engraving didn't react with non stainless metal. I need to fins a new engraver! Laser etching is so much nicer.
