enlighten me on the edge pro and mirror edges

Let's say we go beyond the 6000 grit tape on the Pro. Have any of you used the glass insert, and if so, what polish do you use on it? I wonder if the spray on diamond polish would work simply rubbed onto the glass plate? Ultra mirror finish /edge due to the fineness of the diamond and the highly flat surface of the glass?

I use the glass tape blank with the tapes and it works great.

There is a 7000 grit tape available also, bu not from Edge Pro.

Sounds like a spritz of Hand American 21 Carat diamond spray at 1 micron then followed by another .5 micron would really do a number. It drys and sticks well on about any surface. You don't need much either. I believe it would do really well. IMHO :)

I don't have this system - but you can't mix these, so if you wanted to use them you'd need a glass plate for 1 micron and another for the .5 micron.

I believe the polishing tape of 3000 is 2.5 microns so I also don't know what 6000 would be. Maybe that'd call for you to go as low as their .25 micron spray??

Give me a month and I'll try it once I get everything together. Designate one glass plate for the .5 micron and the other for .25...

I also saw 0.1 micron water based diamond at a different site. Not sure if there's anything to be had at that point.

Thanks for the pointers the both of you

You can get 10,000 and 15,000 grit tapes too. I buy them at the DIY center near me. (I've seen them on the net too, but don't remember the URL.) They come on a sheet about 10"x10" for a couple of dollars. It doesn't have an adhesive backing but I use ordinary white glue sticks for it which works fine. Just be careful not to glop it on. That glue isn't permanent, washes off with plain water, and is cheap.

I don't have the glass blank so I just mount them onto the tape blank. That's flat enough for my needs.

Anyone tried the Naniwa Chosera 10k grit stones for the Edge Pro? I'm not quite sure how much of an improvement it is over the 1000 grit Edge Pro stone, given that they don't use the same grit size system as japanese waterstones.

Not entirely sure why, but something made me give more attention to my Edge Pro Apex lately. Even though the edge angle seems to change with each stone, the edge angle on one side seems different from the other, and it takes a good half an hour to do just one knife, the finished edge on the EP looks much better than what I can get on my paper wheels or with freehanding.

If the stones aren't close to the same thickness it can change slightly, like if one is worn down more than the rest.

Make sure the rod is in the middle, if it is the angles will be the same on both sides.
