Recommendation? Entry Level Fixed Blade?

Following up on this thread on two fronts.

I did end up getting one of the eBay knives. It was $30 shipped with a deal from the seller, so I thought I would FAFO.

It came to me with some rust but I am pleased with it and the sheath so far. I was able to baton a 4" diameter 2' section of maple (and I have never batonned anything before, I am no survivalist and I have hatchets lol), and it did not visibly roll or form cracks.

Also, jlauffer jlauffer was good on his word! The CS survivalist is amazing and came in perfect shape. What a great welcome to the community, thank you again!!!

You stand now at the precipice, the slippiest of slopes. Do you seek to acquire another knife to compare or to cover other tasks that these tools are perhaps less specialized to perform? Or, do you back away to financial safety and a normal, non-metal-obsessed life?

The choice is yours.

Ya tried to save him from the junk knife. You did your part.

Actually, you did something very cool.

You kept your word. 🫡
He DM'd me almost immediately, so at least he's still lurking. But was hoping he'd post his thoughts on the Survivalist, and maybe engage in other conversations around the forum. But I get that the forum can sometimes be intimidating to new members.
