Following up on this thread on two fronts.

I did end up getting one of the eBay knives. It was $30 shipped with a deal from the seller, so I thought I would FAFO.

It came to me with some rust but I am pleased with it and the sheath so far. I was able to baton a 4" diameter 2' section of maple (and I have never batonned anything before, I am no survivalist and I have hatchets lol), and it did not visibly roll or form cracks.

Also, jlauffer was good on his word! The CS survivalist is amazing and came in perfect shape. What a great welcome to the community, thank you again!!!

I was not smart enough to do a before and after test of sharpness on the ebay knife. It did not fare well at cutting an onion! But no idea if it came to me dull.
