I would like to add a tanto folder to the EDC rotation. Any recommendations in the $80 or less range? Feel free to post photos of what you carry if you like.

Cold Steel Recon 1.

The new version with the triad lock and the linerless g-10.

Kershaw leek tanto. should be a pretty cool variant to the normal version.

Go for 20 bucks more and get a ZT 0400 NIB shipped from kershawguy. that is an amazing tanto. it opens like a blur, has S30V, and is very nicely put together. A friend of mine has one. he used it to cut enough magnesium to wear the coating off part of the sides with the factory edge, and still had not bothered to get it sharpened because the edge is still just fine. This is a solid knife.

Crkt m16-14sf

I agree, my ''big dog'' desert tan CRKT M16-14ZSF is an absolutely amazing knife. It's like a ka bar, you can beat the stuff out of it, never sharpen it, and it keeps on completing every task big or small you put it to every day (at least from my experience, there will always be people out there to argue). I abuse it just as much if not more than my leatherman supertool 300, one of the full sized beefy leathermans. Some people will disagree with me that crkt isnt of the highest quality, which i will admit it isnt the highest end company out there, but their m16 and m21 lines are their most popular products and they will last you a lifetime. GET A BIG M16!

Tanto Griptillain, but it's right at the edge of your price range.

I have one of those...I received it in a trade just a few days ago, and now it's my "EDC"...I LOVE that "little" folder! I also have a CRKT M16-14SFA on the way (as well as 3 of the smaller models). These CRKT folders are alot of knife for the price.

TriAd lock CS Voyager.

You can just rock, paper, scissor the coldsteel recon 1 and crkt m16-14sf or flip a coin and you would be happy with either I am sure.

I have an original model Cold Steel Gunsite with the molded pocket clip that has taken a beating over the years and then some. Cold Steel gets my vote!

Matador-

I think you might be correct. However, not sure that I would end up carrying either of these in my EDC rotation due to the size. Still you can never have enough carry options, right?

I was looking at the Kershaw Blur tanto as a smaller carry option. Any experience here?

I had a CRKT m-16 with the aluminum handles and the single guard/flipper. I carried it for a while, then the liner lock failed. Got to a point where the liner would slip out of place with any pressure on the spine.

i wouldnt go with the tanto blur.

blurs are great knives but the tanto version isnt very great in my opinion

the tip is very VERY thin and the serrations are very deep and tend to snag on what your cutting

I have a blur and can say, without a doubt, that it is a solid knife. if you pick it up, it may not be as good of steel as some of the others in your collection, but it is nothing to sneeze at. they never came in plain edge that i can see, and so be prepared for serrations. The only huge problem is that you are going to pay through the nose for them. the are discontinued, and so they are significantly more expensive on the Bay of E and other "fine" places.
