I bought one of these Enzo sheaths, as seen here.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT.

It fit my Busse AD nicely, so thats what I took hunting. One day once it started getting dark and I was headed back to the vehicle I noticed my knife and sheath weren't on my belt anymore! Just a few threads remained. THANKFULLY I was mostly sitting still all day, and didnt wander around too much and I managed to find it before it just before it was too dark to bother looking. The stitching on the belt loop came undone. I suspect when I crouched down the tip got snagged on the inside of my coat, and that pulled the tip up and that leverage caused the cheap stitching to give.

I was very lucky to find my knife in the knick of time, cause it would have been buried in the snow by the next day, and I was just about to give up looking when I found it cause it was getting too dark.

When I got it home I decided to restitch the whole thing with some thick waxed thread and proper figure 8 stitches. I tore all the remaining stitches apart without any effort, not impressive.

$15 is cheap for a sheath, but it's a lot just for a piece of leather, which is basically what you get when you have to restitch the whole thing.

I emailed Ben (of bensbackwoods) about it, he said he'd pass on my concern to the manufacturer. In the mean time I'd avoid this product.:thumbdn:

That really sucks man, sorry you had to find that out the hard way. Luckily it didn't turn out as 'hard' as it may have been!

Certainly could have been worse :D I consider my self very lucky to have found it. I was pretty choked, and kicking myself for putting such a nice knife in such a cheap sheath.

I just hope no one else makes the same mistake, even an inexpensive knife is invaluable when youre in the bush and especially if it's youre only one.

Bladefrienzy, this ISN'T a JRE sheaths, JRE makes some very nice sheaths and are well built. The JRE I have has the belt loop riveted, and also a rivet at the end of the stitches along the side of the sheath, which is where I started to tear my enzo sheath apart. JRE uses much heavier thread and (what appears to be) a different type of stitch.

The sheath I reviewed is made for Enzo knives, which is a shame cause those Enzo knives look very nice, and this sheath certainly doesnt do them justice.

Thanks, I have an Enzo and considered that one when I bought the kit . Glad I passed. I'll get a JRE or a custom maker to do me one.

BTW, I think the Enzo's are great. I have no complaints about mine.

$15 for a sheath is cheap, sorry for the almost bad experience but for a knife costing almost $200 + or - ,I would opt for a better quality sheath...lesson learned.Good quality sheathes are costly but worth every dollar to me.... Thank you for the heads up...

I almost lost my Chudzinski Nessmuk soon after getting it due to the stitching in the sheath I was using coming off. The good thing was my pal Kate was behind me and found it on the ground:thumbup:

A tip for backpacking. the farther to the front you are the more likely people in your party will find something you drop!

This was a very good thing. Besides not losing my knife my pal Kate had lost my Microtech LUDT when we were backpacking about 2 years before and kept bumming out about it.

I was sort of "well things happen" but she had continued to be bummed about it. But she sort of karmically redeemed herself by finding the nessmuk I lost.;)

This is why I make all my own sheaths. I know I can trust my own work. Once you see stitching that looks like it came from a sewing machine back away , quickly !

This is what the stitching SHOULD look like. These (of course ) are not finished yet.

I once lost a knife on the trail.

I was upset for quite a while, but over the course of the hike clamed down and took solace in the fact that is wasn’t one of my better knives.

By the time we were headed back to the trail-head I had written that knife off, and had almost wiped it from my memory.

At one point I’m climbing down a steep part of the trail and I see this knife half hidden in the leaves laying on the ground at the bottom of the ledge.

As I looked at it I was thinking how much it looked like the knife I had lost.

Of course, (daaa) …it was the knife I had lost.

wow this is weird. i have this sheath, have had it for a few months now, and not once ever have i worried about it. maybe its just my sheath but the stitching is good and the sheath is as good as any that i have owned...luck of the draw i guess. sorry bout your misfortune.

I thought I had found a really good deal, but yeah, you get what you pay for. I'm just surprised they'd sell this for the enzo, they might not be $200+, but theyre still far too expensive to lose.

The new ones look like they have the same machine stitching which seems to fall apart once it's been compromised. At least the belt loop isn't stitched anymore.

If ya want something done properly do it yourself! :D

Here's how it looks fixed up with figure 8 stitches with much better thread. I'm really loving leather with kydex liners, truly the best of both worlds!
