Epic Outing With My Eldest

That looks like a phenomenal day! Spending time in nature with lived ones just doesn't compare to much else.

Fabulous. Reminds me I haven't gone out recently with my sons, ages 16&18. Thanks for sharing!

mist definitely a day to remember. anytime you get out in the woods with family is always something to be cherished :) and as usual great pics

That's a beautiful area there! Very cool to share times like this with your daughter.

I think anyone going on a hike with you should expect a damp day, for they don't call you Mistwalker for nothing. :)

It doesn't get any better than that.

Thanks man, I don't think so either. Definitely a day to remember

Thanks for sharing Brian...those are always special moments. It reminds me that I haven't done any hiking with my daughter (16 going on 30) in a while; we'll have to make a special hiking date.

ROCK6

Thanks Rock, get out there and do it bro because time slipps away faster than you think. Seems like just last week she was Alayna's age and soon she'll be headed to college. We're planning a camping trip soon.

Thanks for sharing:thumbup:. I can't imagine a better way to spend a day.

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed the post. I felt better at the end of yesterday than I have in months.

What a great day!
Im sure the both of you will remember that day for a very
very long time!
Thanks for sharing your outing with us.

Did you take this one of her?
Cant tell on this pic is thats her on the stairs.
I really love that picture, whoever took it!

Thank you, yes I know I'll be remembering it for some time to come. She is growing up so fast.

Yes, she sat on those steps to snap a pic of the old Tudor B&B I was standing in front of and as I looked at her and how she was framed I thought what a cool photo. Thanks I really like it to.

Brian, that was awesome. What great way to spend time with her.

Bryan

Thanks Bryan, glad you enjoyed the post. It was an awesome day out!

Looks like a great time, bro! Glad to see she shares your interests in the outdoors and photography. Beautiful pics, too.

Thanks bro, She's been hitting the woods with me since she was 5. She is always busy these days but it always makes me feel good when she says "when are you gonna take me hiking?" I'm glad to see she hasn't lost interest in these things even now that boys have come along and caught her interest too.

I googled Ocoee and didnt come up with a fruit. Whats another name for it?

It is actually a type of passion fruit as far as science is concerned. The Cherokee, whose blood runs through my veins, called them Ocoee and this is what the Ocoee River and surrounding valley are named after this plant. It was a primary food for them and the flower was incorporated into their rituals.

awesome pics man. nothing like that quality time with your first born. my eldest is only two,but i take him out hiking every chance i get.hes such a curious lil guy,he wants to know what everything is.precious memories.

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. I'm glad to see that even though she is a teenager and knows everything I can still teach her a thing or two. When she was younger I taught her which plants to avoid, now that she is older and understands more about it I am letting her try some that are edible.

Mist, in my short time of being on here, your threads either bring back a lot of good memories or have made me hungry . .:) , I think every dad reading this knows what I am talking about on the first part. My son is 25, college, 2 part time jobs & just bought his first home, so our time is few & far between. Thanks for taking us along once again, great shots, & you can tell from the pics that old saying about dad's & father's fits you . . .
Be safe.

Thanks for the kind words. Time passes fast and I know my time in the field with her will become even more limited soon. I am glad you enjoy the posts.

Thanks bro, it was a phenomenal day to be sure. Days like that one are a high all their own.

Thanks bro, definitely a great day to remember. One of those pics is my desk top now, I'm glad you liked them.

Thanks Marcelo, I think it beautiful too. I've moved away several times but always end up being drawn back to it.

Yep, I'm lucky I prefer the damp rainy and misty days. I find the woods more peaceful most of the time :D

Reminds me of the summer with my nephew when we always went in the woods behind my house every weekend. Now that he is in school, hard to accomplish because he lives an hour away. Maybe I should just drive down where he is. There are several good areas down there.

Thanks for posting, I will try to get him out more. (His dad usually works on the weekends)

Great stuff as always buddy !

I was reading recently about the wood of the Persimmon, it is used for pool cues etc because it it very hard and turns well.
The native american indians also used it for many of their tools and it has been found in good condition after hundreds of years in buriel graves !!!

A few years ago I wouldn't be able to keep up with the number of hikes she and I would go on in a year. This was the first one this year...the older she gets, the busier she gets, and the busier I seem to get.

Persimmon wood was also used for gears in the old water wheel mills because of it's hardness and how well it wears. That's one of the reasons I have been seeking out persimmon trees, I want to make some things out of it.
Good info to know if the S does hit the F eh?

A day that started out with coffee around noon and a ride to Snoopers Rock. A day that wound it's way through a mix of photography sessions, fire-crafting practice, toxic plants identification, tasting wild edibles, dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, dessert and coffee at our favorite coffee house, and a night excursion for low light photos to top off the day.
Can't ask for much more than that from a day. Thanks for the ride-along:thumbup:

Hi mistwalker -

That was a very enjoyable post to read.

You have a fine young lady there, and she will benefit from the time you spend with her.

Thanks for the great pictures and the story - indeed epic!

best regards -

Man, that looks like a fun day with Dad. Neato!

Dude thats a great way to spend a day!!! Kudos to you for showing her what a Dad is supposed to be like. I'm getting the "Pentax Love" vibe from your pics - i'm really into film too.

On our "Family Camp" roster, it's my 7-yr-old daughters turn to go to the mountains w/Dad. I just bought a Kelly Kettle and promised her a chance to use it soon. It's such a privilege to "parent" these gifts.

Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed it. She is a good girl and I am proud of her. It was indeed an epic day for me.

She spent a lot of the day smiling, that was great to see. Was definitely a fun day for dad that's for sure. She said that Bushfinger felt good, she had good control with it.

That about sums it up for me as well:thumbup:

Thanks bro, glad you enjoyed the thread.

That is really an awesome adventure! Thanks for the time putting it up!

Glad you enjoyed it, for me it was a day to brag about :)

We used to hit the woods together a lot...no matter what time of year. Creeks in the warm months, snow angles, hot chocolate, and fires in the cold months. We don't get to go as often these days though.

I told her she was lucky, I never got to learn on a 35 mm that nice. Digital is so much easier for me now but I am glad she is learning on film and learning how to develop it herself.

Funny thing is..I saw that first photo without reading who wrote the topic and knew it was you immediately. Used to live in Chattanooga. Looks like you two had a great day together.
