Thought I'd let you folks know what I ended up doing.
First, I picked up an inexpensive faux leather Day Timer like binder and threw out the calendar pages. Next thing I wanted to do is rip out the little metal ring binder piece. I've read of people doing this, but I couldn't figure out how to rip the thing out without ripping apart the entire binder, so instead I broke out the Dremel and dremel'ed off the rings.
Okay, now it's time for business, and when it's time for business, it's time for ... velcro. I first velcroed in the black plastic snap-in cover that comes with the Visor. TThat way I avoided having to put velcro on the visor itself. No such luck with the cell phone, which got a dab of velcro on the back. I also vecroed in the frame for my extra cell phone battery, and the battery snaps into that. A maglite AAA solitaire, and the supplynet cable that lets me attach the Visor to the cellphone for wireless access round out the inventory. The need for the velcro became apparently pretty quickly, otherwise everything just kept falling out every time I opened the thing up. Now everything is very organized. I got a very small binder, I'm thinking of picking up a slightly bigger one the hold a few more things.
So the Day Timer binder is what I carry around if I haven't stuffed everything into jacket pockets, or if I'm not wearing clothes that are casual enough to wear a fanny pack. I like it a lot as a solution. It is small, it carries loads of stuff, and I look only moderately geeky at the very worst
, and in fact at work it looks positively professional!
Another option hit me yesterday. Case Logic makes cases to hold CDs and portable CD/mp3 players. In function, they're really not a whole lot different than the man purse, but at this current point in time, one can still look cool carrying a CD case. These come in many shapes and sizes, and given the velcro treatment should work just great.
The camera case idea that someone had also works just fine. I might argue that the CD player still provides the same functionality while looking a bit cooler, but either should work.
