I've used (good) epoxy to attach small wooden handles to magnets. (rare earth magnets)
But the epoxy just doesn't stick to the magnets.
Is there a good alternative to epoxy?

Are the magnets clean and roughed up a little? I've found often things are often oil ,silicone, wax or plastic coated as part of the manufacturing process and you have to remove the coatings and then hit it with some 220 grit sand paper to build surface roughness for a mechanical bond. Using a thick epoxy also helps. (I usually use JB Quick for that sort of thing.)

I de-greased and roughend them up before glueing.
I let the glue harden in a nice and warm room, so to my knolledge I did everything to get a good bond.
I have the idea that the metal the magnet is made off just doesn't let the epoxy attach.

Try this:
Sand the magnet surface with 120 grit paper, and clean with acetone.
Make the end of the dowel slightly concave, so it will have a pool of epoxy between the wood and the magnet.
If you really want security, use a dowel slightly larger than the magnet, and drill the end to make a recess that holds the magnet.
Use slow cure epoxy.

I just about guarantee that this will solve your problem.

For an alternative to epoxy ( and easier to remove) use double sided sticky foam tape to mount the magnets. I use this to put rare earth magnets anywhere I want one to hold things up/open/closed.

Go to a good hardware store or the German equivalent of Home Depot and look at the double sided foam tapes. Some are construction grade, and will hold as well as nails.

A second alternative is Liquid Nails Construction Adhesive. It comes in a small squeeze tube as well as the big cylinders. This will work as well or better than epoxy on your project. You will find it at the hardware store near the tape, most likely.

How about screws?

You can get magnets with countersink screw heads built into them.
and steel cups designed to hold them.

I'll try Stacies sugestion first since I have the magnets.
1-10, those look like a good plan B
Thnx for the input
