Epoxy handles?

Every time I've glued stuff together with Gorilla polyurethane glue, it foamed up like crazy and basically turned into something like closed-cell insulation foam...apparently it absorbs water vapor out of the air and that is what sets it off...

Who has applied coat/s of epoxy to their knife handles as a sealer? What kind of epoxy have you used and what were the results? Would something like 5 minute epoxy be good or does it have to be a special type of epoxy/resin such as fiberglass epoxy? I'm not looking to get a showroom floor ready epoxy finish, but something that will work well to protect the handle material and create a smooth clean finish.
There is clear epoxy paint that works well.
Look for fishing rod thread coating epoxy in a thin/light variety. Or in bigger quantities, marine finish.

5 minute epoxy is a bit hard to work with, but 30 minute epoxy thinned with a few drops of acetone works well.

Surface prep is important. Degrease and avoid silicone at all costs.

That is the problem I had the one and only time I was repairing something indoors. After a little experimenting and such I'm sure I can avoid that when it comes to applying thin layers for a knife handle.

I never thought about fishing or marine finishes. Thanks for the idea!
