anyone know where to find excellent quality epoxy paint, red, blue, green, or orange in color? thanks, it's for the belt sander i'm making.

How about something even stronger and better?

I have been using Hammerright for more than 5 years on all my shop equipment.

It is made with ground glass, and is the toughest stuff I haver ever used for anything.

They carry it most anywhere, and it comes in a buncha colors.

Application with a brush works as long as you really work it into a thin coat.

I now thin it a little and use a roller to get a good even coat.

It harden in a day, but you should be gentle with it for the first 30 days. The you have armor coating.

GREAT stuff.

Jeff, what type of urethan? wouldn't the epoxy paint be harder?
silent, do you think the local home depot would have it? i don't know of any marine supply stores around here.

Have you considered the Powder coat that hotrodders are using on car frames. I think
it is a baked on process of sorts. It's supposed to be good stuff.

imron...the stuff they use on diesel rigs, or even better is this stuff my friend distributes but i can not think of the name for nothin......awl grip.....its super good epoxy paint....$150 a gal/I have one of my machine tools painted with it and it defies anything.......you would only need a quart. it must have a primer coat first....do an internet search for the stuff...or i might be able to hook you up with a cheap sample from my friend...one problem..has to be shipped ups...from here....

All of the local hardware stores and home centers carry it.
It just takes 30 days to harden completely. You can use it after 24 hours but it isn't completely cured for 30 days.
The stuff is based on the same paint they use on concrete trucks. Those trucks get treated worse than any other vehicles... and they wash them down with ACID to remove all the concrete and chemical residue.
30 days is a long time, but if you use it on one project you will be as sold as I am.

You can buy single part Poly urethane, at most hardware type stores, and it will make a fine machine paint. Awl Grip, Sterling, Interlux, Zspar make two part, high tech Linear Poly Urethane. Very hard, very tough, very expensive. Most commercial fishing boats, yachts, air planes and some trucks are painted with these products. These require an epoxy sandable undercoat if steel, or a zinc chromate epoxy primer if aluminum. These products are some of the very toxic type, and require special spraying suits, and the list goes on.There are some good single part monourethanes by Epiphanes that can be brushed to a very nice finish, tough also. Years ago we painted telescope struts with urethane paint before we epoxied the struts together. The urethane was harder than the epoxy. Whatever you use, it will be much tougher if you can bake it under heat lamps. And always use the recommended primer. Epoxy needs a primer less than most, but benefits from it. Be sure your surfaces are clean and freshly sanded. You don't need a scratchy surface, but you do need to remove surface oxides and hydration.
 
the awl grip is too expensive, but thanks for the tip guys. i looked into powder coat, but i don't think it'll put a smooth finish over 36grt sanding scratches. do you guys know if a can buy infared lights from home depot, or another kind of baking light. heck, maybe i'll just stick it in the oven, can i do that? windancer, i'm gonna look into buying some of that hammerright finish.
i made sure to grind all the parts on my sander so that they had no oxidation. thanks for the tips guys.
