However i have been trying to find some info on some epoxy paint and cant find much. I have herd that it is baked on? If some one could point me in the direction of some info or products i would appriciate it.

That looks a lot like rustoleum 'hammered' paint.

Far from. You can just blacken it for a really nice finish without any baking or mess. Here is a link to a "Blackening Product" that many on here have used with excellent results.http://www.caswellplating.com/kits/black.htm
I have seen several pictures of knives done with this product and they came out very nice.

ANy feedback on how well the blackening product holds up over time?

My work uses the process to blacken new or retipped cutter heads (mostly cutting timber) The finish holds up great, just as good as the old baked on finish ( high temp engin pain) we use to use. Much less stuffing around, whole process only takes 2>3 mins.

Works great on damascus for a super high contrast. Also tried it on D2 to see what would happen but only managed to make it slightly darker. The finish is matt black and I would asume it would scuff up a bit on a knife blade.

I use that caswell "black oxide" stuff (what I have is called "tool black" from MSC - seems to be identical to the caswell product based on the MSDS).

I'm not too impressed with it - it does give you a rich, even black color, but it is not very durable. It has a funny smell.

I just got a bottle of manganese parkerizing solution that I will try next.

If you have a small compressor you can get harbor freight airbrush for like ten bucks I hear. I got a clearance hobby one for 15. Duracoat is easy to use and wears well on the guns I've done. No knives YET. :D Just let it cure a week before rough on it. Good stuff in my opinion.

Dura Coat makes a product called Dura Bake that you apply like spray paint and then bake it. It works Ok but does scratch. The actual Dura Coat product is pretty good as far as I can tell but it requires an airbrush application. I would like to try the Brownells stuff mentioned above and I would like to look into K-Kote as well. Here are some photos I hope.....
