Epoxy question

I too have had trouble with loc-tite used it one time only because I had to it took for ever but what I could touch was still tacky finished the knife out anyway once you get down its ok but I threw the rest away and swore i never would use it again knife is still holding up though

Loc-tite epoxy is the only epoxy I have ever used That didn't set up. I have and use Westsystems epoxy, but bought Loc-tite in the syringe for when I just wanted to mix a small amount of glue. Loc-tite seams to be very sensitive to mixing in the correct amounts. A trick I use is to warm the syringe tubes up to around 90 degrees F. with a hair drier. The glue floes better and you can squeeze the air out and a Little excess before you start your mix.

What type of West Systems are you guys using? I saw a couple of nights ago that Lee Valley carries it and would like to get some to try out. I believe that some have used it for Mycarta as well, or am I just imagining it. Try doing a search for "west Systems". Much comes up.

I have made a canoe, a Kayak, and a dingy with West systems epoxy resin. Used It to make a bedding compound for a muzzle loader I made, Glued up some laminated bows and of coarse glued a few knife handles with it. GOOD STUFF. I have not used it for Micarta but I can not foresee any problems. Don't use the fast hardener unless you are in some place real cold. I tried it once when I was putting glass on my canoe and it set so fast it glued the roller to the boat.

Hi Scott.

What is your reason for moistening the tang before applying the glue?

Lang

The directions on the bottle tell you to moisten one side of the surfaces if it's non-pourous.
Scott

Both sides if they are both non porous. Gorilla is the stuff for tight joint bonds, especially on wood. IMHO
