epoxy rough surface or smooth

will epoxy adhere better to a rough surface(say 36 grit) or to a smooth surface(2000 grit)?
probably asked b-4 but i couldn't find.

Rough. Sandblasted is generally best.

Yup. Rough, but very clean.

Just a +1 here. Before glue up I usually hit my tang surfaces with 36 or 50 grit for a better bond.

 

[Mitchell Knives]

I usually go to 60 grit.
