So I a mready to epoxy my scales and spacer material but realized I am unsure of the proper steps in doing so. I figure my options are below. Which is correct.

Option 1: epoxy spacers to blade, let dry, then epoxy scales to spacers

Option 2: Epoxy spacers to blade and scales (and pins) to spacers at the same time.

I would appreciate any and all help. Thanks so much!

I assume your new to knifemaking either option is fine just remember do one side then drill holes, then the other if its a full tang knife . I prefer Option 2 myself except I do the pins last after the spacers and handles are dry . Goodluck

I like to glue my spacer material to my scales first...then to the blade.
cut the spacer material a little big so any extra glue wont get in between your scales...if it does happen you can just sand it off once it dries.

I like to glue spacers on a bunch of scales at one time so when I have blades ready I can assemble.

I also use Jim Rehrer's method- I can epoxy all my scales and spacers at once and save myself the extra waiting time and hassle during assembly.

Here is my method
1- Sand scales flat w/80 grit paper
2- Rough up 1 side of the liner material for both scales
3- epoxy linere to scales then put a piece of wax paper between the two liners and clamp the scales together and let sit overnite.
4- Sand the lineres flat and fit to tang drill and then epoxyto tang.

Hope this helps

I do them like SBuzek. As the others pointed out, you can do a batch of scales and then attach them to the blades as you need them. Saves time in the long run.

Heatride's comment about the holes is right on,too. Too many new makers glue up the scales and then realize they don't know exactly where the holes are in the tang. Glue on one scale. Drill a pilot hole (1/2 the size of your rivet) from the tang side. Glue the other scale on. Drill the pilot hole through. Re-drill with the proper hole for the rivet. Glue in rivets.
