Equal End Customs?

Hello, I've been looking around at different pictures of customs/different makers knives and have seen a variety of patterns pop up. However I haven't seen many equal end customs at all, which surprised me. Is there any particular reason that pattern doesn't get made nearly as much as something like a Lanny's clip for example? Is it just a popularity thing, or is there something more to it? Also if anyone has pictures of custom equal ends I'd love to see them!

Would you mind sharing some examples of equal end patterns? I'm afraid I'm not as familiar on the term and a quick google wasn't definitive. That being said, there may be a couple candidates in the customs thread that might fit the bill in case you hadn't seen it.

I was thinking along the lines of the cigar/Churchill style of equal end knife. If you're familiar with GEC it'd be like the 35 and 53/54 patterns that I am interested in. Speaking of the customs thread, I've gone through most pages there, gorgeous knives in that thread, but I don't remember seeing too many of this style pop up. I suppose I could pose my question there if that would be a better spot?

One reason may be that so many customs are single-blades, and the equal end frame works better as a double-ender, with blades at both ends.
It takes great skill to make a cattle knife like the one Elliott shows above.

Gotcha, thanks! Looking through, as you said, there were only a few examples. I agree with black mamba black mamba in that the challenge and time involved in making a multi-bladed knife likely adds to the scarcity of the model.

Ahh ok that does make a lot of sense. I was wondering if it might be something in the pattern that makes it more difficult to create and that just about explains it. Thanks for the help, very much appreciated.

Prairie.dog, I'm not much of a micarta fan, but that Southard is a real beauty! Just look at those bolsters!!
Not sure how I missed this, but yes, I'm the exact same way. Not the biggest micarta person, but the whole package just works!! I'm sad it's gone, but it's with a friend who will keep me in mind if they move it, so that's some relief!

Not for all but there is a certain degree of difficulty to properly execute some equal end patterns. That some are reluctant to attempt.

Such as this single spring cigar. It's a pretty tight package.

Wow! Both the Rhidian and the Southard are gorgeous examples!

Lovely one from Rhidian!! I remember when he posted this. Super useful blade combo. Really hope to get a spot on his list one day 🤞

Thank you. Rhidian Rhidian deserves all the praise. He did a wonderful job with it. I'm very happy with it and grateful to own it. Don't mind the shmoo in the pictures I actually do carry and use it.

prairie.dog prairie.dog I remember you posting that southard some time ago and admiring it. As you can probably tell definitely my style. I'm an overall fan of equal end single spring patterns.
