ergonomics!

I find very simple handle shapes fit me the best like an old leatherman PST whit an almost square handle or the smaller wooden handled classic Moras. Same thing whit kitchen knifes a simple almond crosscut allows many hand-position an there fore a minimum of fatigue. The worst is the ones witch look very ergonomic almost like a competition gun handle.

what knife have you found to have the best ergos? i want a REALLY exceptionally comfortable knife but i havent been in the knife world long. suggestions?

attack the thread!

For security ie knowing the knife will stay in my hand I would say ZT
For comfort while holding and using definitely Benchmade

The ZT 200 is sculpted G10, feels pretty good to my hands.

Folder - Spyderco Paramilitary 2
Fixed - Anything by Becker, outstanding ergos on these knives, especially with the Ka-bar micarta scales added. The BK-5 is something majestic to hold and the BK-9 just outdoes expectation in hard usage. (Honourable mention to the Buck Nighthawk).

Emerson, Spyderco, AGR Cowboy and Sodbuster folders.
Fixed blade, Dozier, by a mile.

well, the price range is from like, dirt cheap to 150. im kinda broke so i set a limit, like most people probably do. and im looking for a great all around knife. good sized edc, tactical enough if defense comes into play and kinda stylish

In that price range, hmm. And depends on what you mean by "all-around."

Fixed blades:
Spyderco Bill Moran
Zero Tolerance 0170*
Becker BK-14
Becker BK-2*

*These two probably don't qualify so much as "all-around" knives; depends.

All sorts of after-market scales are available for the BK-14, or you can make your own. Same goes for the BK-2.

Folders:
My favorite is the Zero Tolerance 0200. Aggressively textured G-10 handles (grippy, but not too sharp), and just enough palm swell for my average-size hands.

The 0200 doesn't have assisted opening, but it's fast and smooth.

I would say that the Spyderco Stretch II (FRN version), top, is the most comfortable knife that I own. But since everyone is different, you are going to have to buy about 120 knives in order to narrow down what is best for you.

Honorable mention - Spyderco Caly 3.5.

The Buck 110 just feels sooooo good!

For me, the Fallkniven thermo handles are also very comfortable.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned the ZT 0300 series of knives. For me they were the mos comfortable to hold. They have excellent ergos with 3d g10 scales. I just didnt like their weight and their thick blades. So I trade all of mine off.

now the most comfortable I have is my Millie and PM2's. My Millie gets most of the pocket time. I truly love that knife.

If no knife is off limits then the carbon fiber Griptilian is probably the most comfortable knife I've ever handled.

Heh :) It is interesting how much better the same design can feel when you go from hollow plastic to solid cf. (I guess that's sort of obvious though you do have to hold it to really appreciate the difference.)

Seems everyone is going with larger knives, but I'm going to stick up for the little guy.

Spyderco Ambitious.

It's like beating a dead horse for me since I talk about this knife all the time. But it just fits...SO perfectly. Many smaller knives are simply too small for medium-sized hands or larger. I think one of the ways the Ambitious makes up for that is in the overall width of the knife. Either way, super easy to open and close one-handed. A cheap small knife of surprising quality and deceptive size (looks small, but feels much bigger in the hand).

I've tried the Tenacious - I had it for a couple of years and really liked it but I sold it because it never got any pocket time. Maybe I'll try out the Ambitious, you're not the first member to post about how nice they are.

I'd like to get anther Endura 4 though, I never should have sold my sage green G-10 model, it was little tank of a Spydie and felt great to hold.

So many Spydercos and so little money too spend! :D

I wouldn't even attempt to draw a parallel between the Tenacious and the Ambitious, cziv. As I've said before, I still just have not warmed to the Tenacious. I honestly don't know what I'm not liking about it. Even have it pocketed as we speak, because I'm still trying to give it a chance.

The Ambitious, OTOH, hell I carry it around the house with me! Couldn't recommend it enough. But, as I've stated before, different hand sizes may get a different outcome. I would say my hands are medium sized (I'm 5'11" 185lbs.), and it just feels like it was custom fitted for my hand.

My next Spydie will be the Para2, and then I'll be eyeing the Native.
