Ernie at Triple Aught!!!

Ernie's lookin STYLIN' with the goat! :D What's that blade he's carrying, though? Doesn't look like EKI product to me...

That almost looks like a Trainer version of the SARK with some red G10 handles on it...hmm...

Don--

That was taken at the Chino seminar, and yes, a SARK trainer is exactly what it is. I got to handle it some, very solid, very nice.

Just to coment on the TAD Jacket in the picture - these are GREAT!!! I have one in OD and have been wearing it for the past couple of weeks. One nice thing is that you can change the badge on the arm, using velco, depending on where you sare going and how PC (or not) you wish to be.

Regards,

Ed

Ed- just wondering how warm they are? I was looking at one that Josh had at the NYC show, and was just wondering how warm they keep you. This is looking like it's gonna be a COLD winter!

I like his comment at the end saying how you would not want to be on the receiving end of this wiew or spmething like that.

Hey jdupuis74: I see your from Saratoga, one of my most favorite places in the world. I've spent alot of time there. Went out with a great girl there years back and we drank the town dry, and my aunt and uncle work at the track. What a great town !!!!
Donald :)

Donald,

U know it would b nice to leave some alcohol for the town next time.

That is an awesome pic Evan. Tell Josh to send me one. Pleassssssssse.

The jacket is very much a wind and waterproof layer. It is very warm, but does not have any insulation of it's own - you would need to have a fleece or jumper unless you are moving around alot.

Ed

Well, the jacket is interesting and expensive...I think I'd rather have a black SAS Combat Smock for the money...but they don't sell them over here!

The SARK Trainer is what I want...anyone know if these are going to be offered soon?

Don,

The SAS Smocks are great, but the TAD makes for a better car jacket - I have both. The SAS jackets even come in different colors!!

Regards,

Ed

For what the TAD jacket costs you can get a similar jacket with a Gore-tex membrane.

I remember seeing a Black SAS Smock with a Gore-tex liner being sold by US Cavalry, don't know if they still offer it.

The quote on the pic made me kinda chuckle...receiving end of a training knife? Though I suppose Mr. E could make that hurt;)

:)

OWL,

Any time you see a SAS smock with a liner it is not the "real thing", just a garment made in the same style. The issue smocks are made of cotton Garbadine. The only other type in use are the ripstop Ventile type. Nobody would use a petro-chemical material because of the rustle and melt-hazzard (yuk!) problems.

Knife content - I would not want to argue with Ernie even if he was not holding the training knife - he would proberbly take my sharp one of me and then return it, point first. :(

Regards,

Ed

Hey Ed - you wouldn't want to get into the export business would you? SAS smocks and Sandhurst t-shirts? :D

SEE2 and others,

Sandhurst T-Shirts you can only get if you have been on a course there - I am sure you all understand.

SAS Smocks I am open to offers. If people let me know what they want I will try to work out a price and get back to you all. The basic information that I need is height, chest size, colour required and material (Garbadine (std issue) or Ventile (more expensive but waterproof).

BTW does everybody here know what we are talking about when we say SAS Smock. If not I can post a picture - I will make sure that there is an Emerson knife in it!

Regards,

Ed

I wear my TAD jacket when I fly in the helo. It is extremely well suited for flight operations in an open cabin helicopter. Cut high enough at the bottom to allow the use of my flight vest and riggers belt. It is great at cutting through the wind (rotor wash) and all sorts of cold climate. We even flew in the mountains with snow the other day. I added a Strider sweatshirt underneath for insulation and was good to go to just under 0 deg celcius. Plus is looks military enought that the officers think it is issue and don't hassle me about it. I've had at least a dozen pilots ask about where they can get one. All together a great jacket.

Ed - of COURSE I understand! Some things are reserved for the people who "walk the walk". Would have been cool, though. :D

As for the Smock, I'd love to see a picture as well. I have an idea what it is, but it'd be great to confirm!

Bomber,

Why wear a jacket you had to pay for when (if your in the service) you can wear a Nomex or Aramid fire resistant flight jacket for free?

Here's a pic of the SAS smock:
