On my Sifu, the spring is glued into place on the end that sits in the handle. I am sure you can do a little superglueing or even a dab of Elmers would keep it from running away, as for the other end, you can do several things. You could hole the spring in place and lay a piece of paper over it and wrap the paper around to the other side of tha hadle and tape it into place till the scale is partially attached to the liner. remove tape, pull out paper from between scale and liner and finish attaching scale. What I did last time was I put spring in place and held it there with my finger and (with the knife on the table) held the scale perpendicular to the knife and moved my finger out of the way as I set the scale on the knife, and then rotated the scale into place, the little bit you have to lift it to get to the lock arm isn't enough to let the spring to fly out.
Gees, I hope that makes sense.
Merry Christmas
