Esee 3 Folder

I like deep carry clips also. Deep as in none of the knife is visible. Having a clip mounted at the butt of the handle does this well. Not a dealbreaker, but definately something I look for.

Super gimicky....

Carry around a small bic if you want to open beer bottles, it can also light things on fire....

Heck, even a sheet of paper folding down can open a bottle of beer, I certainly don't need my knife to do it! lol:D

1 vote for using your teeth .;)

What's the hard on for deep carry clips? Nobody cares or looks at your pocket, it's not a gun for christ's sake. A deep clip just makes it harder to draw.

Personally, I have used deep carry clips and other styles and it doesn't make any difference on being able to draw the knife. After a few times of taking the knife out of your pocket it comes natural no matter how deep the clip sets. To me at least.

Sogs clip is too hard to get out of the pocket IMO. Spyderco's wire clip is the best in the business.

So maybe it is clip design and not where it's positioned on the knife?

I'd love to agree with you there. But there is a thread over in the Knife Laws forum, called Gravity knife, or something like that, that is kind-of an eye-opener with regards to a highly visible clipped knife.

But besides all that, I find that generally carrying the knife is more comfortable the 98% of the time it is on me in my pocket instead of in my hand when the clip allows the knife to sit deeper. Not sure why, but it is. And i've not had any problem withdrawing the SOG from my pocket, the few times I've carried it that way (most of the time I carry my "tactical" folders on my belt in a pouch of some type). If not there, I go for real concealment, and stick it down completely inside my pocket.

The carry laws here are very vague and the police here will definitely notice a knife sticking out of your pocket. It is then at their discretion (and generally mood) to decide whether to confiscate it and/or charge you. A deep carry clip means that: a)They'll generally assume it's a pen and b) If they did want find out what it actually was, they'd have to go to all the trouble of taking you back to the station for a search.

TLDR: The laws here mean a lowrider clip is the only viable clip carry option.

Speaking for me, I like 440C just fine. I am really looking forward to this knife coming out, though I will reserve final judgment on my opinion until I have one with some use behind it. It looks cool on the site, but you never know until you monkey with something and use it for awhile if its good or not.

Well let me say that I was looking for a really good EDC folder that was practical and sturdy and without mentioning the folder that you would have not mentioned that one drew my ettention until I found out ESEE would finally be making a folder. I'm intrigued and I want one... I hope it doesn't break my bank but if it does, I'll probably buy one anyway. I also need a good fixed blade of the same dependable type and from what I've seen I can't get a better one that an ESEE. Thanks for the quality fellas!

I don't live where you live but that logic makes no sense to me. If they are already looking for knives sticking out of your pocket then they know what clips look like. I highly doubt they will mistaken a knife clip for a pen???? Maybe the logic is since the "weapon" is concelaed and not so noticeable then they don't screw with you? In other words, since it's not in your face they simply don't say anything.

As a guy who has lost a couple of his favorite folders, I’m all for deep carry pocket clips. Whatever gets the knife deep in the pocket without it actually laying in the bottom of the pocket is great.

If the laws for carrying a pocketknife in your area are “iffy” I’d be carrying it IN my pocket. When LEOs (or most anyone else for that matter) sees a pocket clip, I’d wager their first assumption is it’s a knife.

Pretty much, the police tend to be a little on the lazy side here. They may strongly suspect that you have a knife but the search laws here are weighted towards the individual, they have to bring you to the station for a search. If they don't find anything the amount of work it creates (paperwork and PR problems) makes it not worthwhile. They'll generally only go after something that's 100%.

And I often do, but sometimes it's nice to have the option of clip carry.

And there's not much of a knife culture here (no matter what Crocodile Dundee says), so most people's minds don't jump to knife.

where do you live that they cant search you immediately? In the states if an officer has contact with you he can pat you down (terrystop) theres a little more behind it but its an immediate pat down for weapons etc and if you can articulate that the item you felt was known to be a certain contraban or weapon its a chargabale offense. If you cant and you pull it out of a pocket etc and find it to be drugs or unathorized weapon, knife etc you take it to say the least and its easy enough to document too. Also anytime an officer is going to transport you thats another search. most depts have regs not only requiring the search but handcuffs. Best story I have hard is a 10 year old missing boy. State Police find him give him a ride to a certain point. County officer gets kids give him ride to another location where the local auhtoritites meet them to take custody of the kid and turn over to parents. officer pats kid down and he has a loaded 357 in his pants! Kid had the 357 the entire time. I had a buddy( not an leo) who had a loaded gun in his car. he was a decent guy. needles to say he was near an area where a crime occurred. someone reported a car matching his leaving the scene. he gets stopped by a police officer. they ask to search the car. he knows his rights and says no. Since his car matches the suspect vehicle they search and find the gun and a cannabis pipe. they determine he was not invloved in the orginal inicdent. but he still gets charged with the uuw offense and the cannabis pipe. It cost him alot of money and his job even though he knew his rights. wrong place at the wrong time. just food for thought

I bought a kershaw blur cpm154 in nyc custom knife shop about a month ago . I put it in my pocket walked about two blocks . A cop in a car sprung out and said what's that in your pocket . I had a hoodie on covering most of clip aswell . He told me he could arrest me on spot right there, luckily my squeeky clean record helped and he gave me blade back and told me to keep it in bottom of pocket till I get back to jersey.

Western Australia. Police can only search you if you have been arrested, they can only arrest you if there is a "reasonable suspicion of criminal activity", knife carry is not technically a crime in itself.
