ESEE-3 MIL or ESEE MIL clip point?

I've decided to purchase one of the above blades. It will be used as an edc blade for me. With the WA state legal carry blade length at 3.5, its just the right size. I can't decide which one I want though. Ever since TTD posted that pic of the clip point MIL last week, she's been running through my mind :p

Which one will serve me best IYO

advantages one has over the other? Possible negatives? Thanks!

Well, I dont know any thing about the clip point version, but i do own the standard esee 3MIL. And i like it allot sofar.
So just look at your daily cutting tasks or things you expect to do with your knife. Possibly in a self defense roll (clip point version)? Or do you life in a area with allot of woods etc and do you spend allot of time outdoor? Then normal version is maybe better.
Or do you think you will also use in on hikes/outdoor trips etc instead of EDC use.

But thats just my opion :D

I'd go standard MIL. I'm not big on the clip point, at least not yet.

Advantage: an extra edge that you could use to do things you don't want to do with your primary edge.

Disadvantage: an extra edge to cut yourself with. :D Might not be as good for woods tasks like light batoning because it would be cutting and getting stuck in the baton.

If you really like the clip, go for it though. It's all about what you want in a knife.

You might want to double check legalities on a double edged knife in your state and local jurisdictions.

I beileve it's alright, but I am gonna check as I just realized the full blade length is 3.88, and the cutting edge is 3 3/8. I'll ask a few police if they'd count the non cutting portion as a "blade"

they count the entire blade length, when in doubt, air on the side of caution
might wanna check out the HEST, or maybe the izula with scales.

Yes. The Izula with scales/paracord wrap is the perfect edc. It has a multitude of carry options and is small enough to simply slide in your pocket. Sorry about making your decision harder.

the izula is already an out for me. I don't like the small grip. I may try the folder when it's released. I'll look into the hest a little more before I decide

Wait, the clip part isn't actually sharpened, is it??? Generally clip points are left unsharpened, but I haven't really checked it out that closely on this one. So, I doubt you'd cut yourself on it, but it might not be great for something like battoning, and some fine tip control.

If you travel to Seattle, you can't carry a fixed blade. You may know this but I'm bringing it up because the law annoys me. SMC 12A.14.010 - ANY knife that does not have a hinge is considered a dangerous weapon and is illegal. - a butter knife, a 1" knife, anything that does not have a hinge. You could even be arrested when transporting a kitchen knife from the store to your house. It all depends on what the cops want to do. That law is why I do not EDC my Izula.

There may be similar laws in place for Spokane and/or Tacoma, but I'm not sure.

After seeing that pic of the ESEE MIL Clip Point last week, I had to have one. I've been carrying it around, and did some pruning with it yesterday. I love it! Yes, I do have to be mindful of that top edge, but I like the extra utility it provides. It works really well for light scraping duties as it's sharp, but not like the primary edge, it's a pretty stout bevel.

Yes, the clip is actually sharpened on these knives. It is not a false edge like on most clip style blades.

1st is a double edge knife legal in your area ?
Pro's : secondary edge as a back up or fire striker ETC ,nice self defense tool
Con's: could be illegal in your state , you lack Baton area...

I am going to pick up a Clip point but I have yet to deceide which model....ESEE 3-4-6 I'll wait for all models to be release and do my own pro/con list.
but the ESEECPMIL is top of my list

Yea, I'm leaning 3 or 4. Mostly to use as a striker, but it'll probably wind up being my city edc too.

Thanks Tony..This post needed pics..lol..You beat me to it.

Personally, I want the clip point kit in the first pic..molle back, boot clip and all.

Is having an extra 'utility' edge worth the trade off of the safety of only one edge? The sharpened upper clip would be preferred if the blade were employed as a combat fighter, but for camping tasks and general utility, I tend to think that you'd get by with one edge just fine. Am I missing something?
