ESEE-3 MIL or ESEE MIL clip point?

Is having an extra 'utility' edge worth the trade off of the safety of only one edge? The sharpened upper clip would be preferred if the blade were employed as a combat fighter, but for camping tasks and general utility, I tend to think that you'd get by with one edge just fine. Am I missing something?

I don't see how a sharpened top edge is any less "safe" unless you were to wipe the blade on a pant leg half-mindedly, put your thumb too far forward on the spine to apply pressure when cutting, or any other small number of careless things.

In routine use, you probably won't notice the difference. I have carried and used double-edged knives almost exclusively for about 20 years with no issues.

I learned from a local LEO today that in WA (outside of Seattle), I can carry any length blade I want as long as it's not in a "furtive carry" position. So basically pocket carry is legal, as is anywhere anybody would normally carry a knife. No RCW stating anything about blade length.

Now I only wonder horizontal concealed carry on the rear of my belt is furtive :grumpy:

I am gonna give the clip point a try, as I will be using my 5 for the rougher camping duties.
