Hi there.

I recently received a OD/Orange ESEE 3 with swinkels kydex, and its a lovely knife. Seeing as how I can't leave stuff alone I've made some minor adjustments to the knife, and now I require a little bit of help.

first mod was to remove the scales and strip it. That was done easy enough and now I plan on putting a patina on. The other mod I did was to add black liners to the orange G10 handles. I'm happy with the results of this work, but unfortunately when I was reinstalling the handle scales I twisted a little bit too much on the middle screw and stripped the female piece that sits in the handles.

Is there a way I can get replacement screws that are a touch longer or maybe even phillips/flat head instead of allens?

Also I have a bushcraft related question.

Do you bushy blokes have any use for the glass breaker pommel in the bush? I'm thinking of flattening it like the other ESEE 3 pommels I've seen, and was wondering if it would have any adverse affects other than not being able to use it as a skull crusher or window breaker (keeping in mind it is illegal to edc a fixed blade here so windows and skulls won't be a problem).

I think thats all.

I'll take some photo's of the knife in action at a later date, and put them into the ESEE mods thread.

Thanks all

I doubt you'll be able to get longer threaded standoffs. Those are ordered finished at the lengths used.

A hardware store might be your best bet.

As for the pommel, I grind the point off all my 3MIL's. Just no use for it personally and it digs into my spare tir.....I mean, my abs.....yea, abs.

If you buy the regular ESEE-3 and not the Mil version wouldn't you save time having to grind down the sharpened pommel?

Are there other differences on the 3mil besides the pommel?

If the one the op has came with orange handles it's probably not the MIL version with the sharpened pommel but just the pointed one (not the rounded off one). I've got the same version. Can't imagine rounding it off would hurt anything. I've been tempted to do it myself but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Waldganger, hope to see those pics when you get done:)

The 3-Mil has a canvas micarta handle instead of a linen micarta handle.

You can buy those screw and standoff sets at many hardware stores. Just saw some yesterday.

The point on the 3MIL has never been a problem for me as far as comfort goes, doesn't poke me or anything. I left mine just how it came.
