Esee 4, LionSteel T5 or Demko Freereign?

The farthest to the right in last pic sheath , looks to have its own little backpack (or two ) ?

I'm a bit curious about what you carry on your knife sheath . Spare magazines ?

I’ll dump out the contents and get a pic. Basic fire kit, sharpening kit, compass, a few water purification tablets, fat wood sticks etc. That particular rig is so heavy I’ll never carry it - if I was stuck overnight or longer in the mountains it would be handy. You could probably fit 2 full capacity magazines in that pouch or 3 single stack

The Ratmandu was the first knife that I ever held in my hand and thought "this is comfortable in literally every possible grip". I got mine in 2015. Right here:

Too bad I moved it along before I learned how to regrind......
LOL! I was thinking about buying that one at the time, and that M6. You made the decision for me on the RMD and I decided against the M6 due to the serrations.

The Demko in magnucut is nice / the sheath is my only complaint. Edge geometry is dialed for rough use.

I have no experience with that lionsteel - it looks great though.

Esee is my pic. You’ll have to sharpen it sooner than the others.. Rowen does a good heat treatment though.
What don't you like about the sheath? I gave my magnacut demko to my son, he uses it all the time and loves it.

Size of the sheath is my only complaint, or nitpick. It’s a good quality sheath, I just prefer something a little slimmer ( as I just posted a pic of a sheath the size of a Toyota Corolla 😂 ).

That Demko knife is EXCELLENT though. Cuts for days ..

I'm a sheath nit picker too, it's how I ended up making my own sheaths. The molle back that is on my bk2 is actually for the esee 5, I loved the tin pouch and back like 13 years ago thought it was the best thing since sliced bread lol it's very functional but I prefer more slim and streamlined now

How do you like the handle? It kind of looks..."cheap" maybe, compared to a nice micarta handle, but some say it's the most comfortable of all.

Those kinds of handles wind up a bit fatter, a bit more forgiving on shock and less susceptible to cold or heat (as in you don't freeze your hand off touching bare metal)

I like the rubber handles.

I notice it more on my skrama. Which I baton and beat on things. Rather than a lighter use knife like my freereign.

But I haven't noticed there are really down sides exept maby rubber handles look a bit rubbery.

Here’s a bunch of pics - the EKA ( rowen ) on top with scales - excellent bargain

Rubber scales - I love them. The Demko encapsulated handle is very comfortable in any weather, magnucut means you don’t need to worry about rust inside the handle. I have a bunch of encapsulated rubber handled knives from Ontarios to Busse’s - I love them. Micarta or Rubber are both great if done right. G10 can be great as well - Suretouch though , basically G10 with layers of rubber - EXCELLENT

I didn't see a notification that I was mentioned...? I don't get them anymore, idk Why? Thanks....for the mention, though. :D
I just stumbled here by accident...Haha.

I think people put Way too much thought towards steels....yet I'm kinda still a steel snob, and somehow I mostly love them All.

I tell people to look more for handle comfort, edge geometry, sheath quality, maker reputation....stuff like that. Steel less so.

For steel the real questions are....
Blotchy, or Not?
Toughness or Edge Retention?
Thick or Thin?

Here is a sheath I'm making tonight. And an Esee, and a David Mary......

Just got notified that the Aus 10 version of the Demko is on sale this week at Knife Center for $125!

I think it’s safe to assume Demko ( Cold Steel ) know how to get the MOST out of Aus 10. $125 seems like a good deal

Ok, one more question about buying an Esee. I’ve heard not to buy any knives on Amazon as it is full of fakes. I read that Esee even specifically warned against it unless you bought directly from their Amazon store. (I think I read that here, while lurking and before joining). Anyway, is that the consensus here as well? I think I’m going with the Esee 4 first. I’ve had good experiences already with Blade HQ, Knife Center and DLT, but none of them has my first choice model in stock. Even if you go to “visit the Esee store” on Amazon, when you go to check out it says “fulfilled by Amazon something or other…”. Should I try it? Or wait for one of the dealers to get one in stock?

Obviously, I’d much rather support the knife dealers than Amazon, who get’s enough money from us already.

You can’t go wrong with any of the vendors you listed. As far as amazon fakes go , they are definitely out there. You might be able to find something on the exchange here ?

If the Esee Amazon store leads to an Amazon fulfillment distributor just make sure returns are accepted. You should be ok as long as the order originated from a trusted Esee Amazon link. I have no idea if what I just wrote was of any use.

No It's not the consensus here. I bought several cold steel knives from there and all of them are genuine ones. I don't buy expensive knives there though.

Thanks for the reply. In this case, I’m specifically asking about Esee. I read that Esee warned against buying on Amazon except specifically from them, due to all the Esee fakes.

I haven’t been in this game long, but alread know better than to buy a Benchmade or other more expensive knife on Amazon. In fact, my first Strongarm was a fake. I reported it to Amazon and did get my money back, but I know they didn’t do anything about it because that seller was still selling them 6 months later.

But again, I read that Esee warned people not to buy there… I either read it hear or maybe even on the Esee web site. Might have to look that up again to make sure.
