Hey, opinions. ive got the rtak 2 blade for survival, im looking into which would be a better fit for a smaller survival knife and hiking knife.
esee-4 or esee-5 ?

If you already have a larger knife then go with the 4. It's a great size and thickness for general bushcraft.

5 is a beast! Big and Bulky! If you want a smaller hiking knife get a 3. Super nice an thin with almost as much blade as a 4

If you want to take one blade, I'd go for the esee-4. If you're planning on pairing it with the rtak, get the 3. Hell, as a hiking/small survival knife, the esee-3 is probably plenty by itself.

of the two blades, the 4 is nice, light and well balanced. The 5 is a leg tank.

The -5 weighs a pound. If you need to separate a diesel truck or a mobile home into its component parts with a tool that fits on your belt, it'll get the job done. I love it for what it is, but as a general hiking/camping/outdoor knife, I like the -4 more. It's light to carry and very well balanced and handy. I'd highly recommend it on its own merits, but if you already have something to fill the big knife niche, I'd definitely say the -4 is the way to go.

The esee 4 would be better for what your talking about. You already have a chopper. Plus, you'll have some extra cash to buy a couple arrow heads.

The ESEE4 is the better all around knife. No doubt about it. Unless you plan on being in a downed plane, in enemy territory. But.. that is different.

RC5 for the win... whether its specs are better or not, the knife has heart. It's something you want on your person all the time once you own it, because you know without a shadow of a doubt that it is up to the task and will not fail. A true SERE knife.

I would say RC-4 for sure unless you plan on doing some serious work like splitting logs. Its probably overkill, but I carry both into the wild. And I use them both. If you don't mind the weight (the RC-5 is 16oz) then someday you might benefit from the extra capability. The RC-6 also seems to be a fantastic blade although I don't own one myself. The only benefit I see from that is extra chopping ability. I use a Cold Steel kukri machete for any chopping the RC-5 has trouble with and it works great. That's a $15 blade compared with a $120 one. Although if I had the RC-6 I might not need the RC-5 OR the machete... Ha! I tend to over think things when I have a few drinks in me...
