ESEE-5 and Cold Steel Spartan

I fixed a few of the problems as far as rust and handle. Blade regrind by courtesy of TheCarbideRat.

The problem with the Spartan is its warrenty. I do use my blades and I will allways choose the ZT200 over the Spartan reguardless of price. just because of the warrenty and customer service. Just try to get a pocket clip from CS and they dont warentee for shit. if ya break a ZT doing anything they will replace.

I guess I will make my first post here... I have a Spartan in my pocket as we speak although it is a large knife it carries well and is ready for any task you may want to throw it's way I also have on me a CRKT m2104g, Spyderco Tenacious and a KaBar k2 green g-10 warthog. Yes I carry three to four a day and each plays a different role...

I highly doubt that the spartan or it's pocket clip will break in the first place though.

No Cold Steel stuff never breaks. Come on stop with the coolaid. I have snapped clips off several knives. I work on Heavy equipmnent every day crawling in and under and actually use my stuff. Infact one of my favs actually is one of the voyagers. It is the 4 inch and does not have its clip anymore. but I do still carry it. My statement wasnt a slam on CS it was from someone that uses the blades.

So dont actually try that Cold Steel cant break stuff.

Anything can be broken. Also, there is no coolaid. I have used my knives too and the spartan in particular was torture tested. All of this comes from actual testing not just spouting off at the mouth.Don't just make assumptions about what is said. I highly doubt it would break but it could.Your right though the Zt warranty is better no argument.

well first off it is an opinion but since you asked for an expansion upon the idea

giant 4 and a half inch recurve blade on a folder with knuckledusteresque handles

ends up looking like this: http://budk.com/Knives/Jungle-Bowie-Knife?

mated with this: http://www.alphainnovationsselfdefe...tml/defense tools/Battle Crab/battle carb.htm

and the child in turn copulated with this: http://budk.com/United-Tailwind-SOA-Sniper-Folding-Knife

i mean just the description of it on the website is ridiculous a folder does not equal a sword no mater how much marketing you try and neither does a 4 1/2 inch fixed blade, seems gimmicky to me.

I'm glad you feel the need to white knight for cold steel im sure they are glad to have such loyal fans, i own a few cold steel knives and products (i think the sharkie was mismarketed, it could have been great for combat medics as an unbreakable sharpie for marking casualties) and i'm not one of the people that is out to dismantle cold steel brick by brick but cold steel does some ridiculous things and puts out some ridiculous products (like the paradox, no one has been able to explain to me a rational reason for that to exist) and i call a spade a spade.

This is as far as i will go on this subject if the OP is drooling over a cold steel and feels it perfectly meets his needs then mazel-tav, I simply sugested a few alternatives and presented my opinions.

My bad, I guess you misunderstood my post. I never wanted clarification on your actual opinion, although it was nice to see effort applied. My request for clarification was for the factual claim you made comparing the locking mechanism that you seem to have phrased as an opinion. A simple link would have been fine.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'white knight for cold steel' but if your accusing me of being a fanboy you should know the only cold steel products I own are a hatchet and a machete.

Last thing. I am no punctuation or grammar expert, but a comma (,) is not the same as a period. (.) A period goes at the end of a sentence, not just at the end of a paragraph. Furthermore, I'm and I are both capitalized even if they do not begin the sentence. Like I said, I'm no expert and this is not a personal attack, but your posts are incredibly difficult to comprehend.

It just seems to me that every time ColdSteel is brought up naysayers have to chime in about the same things over and over. They have to mention how this (insert x) company is better and how ColdSteel are made in Taiwan. They then claim that the (insert x) lock is just as strong as the Tri-ad without any proof or experience on the matter.I think a lot people base their opinion of ColdSteel on more of a personal preference( Just don't like them, not liking the videos, etc.) than on actual function.

!00% truth...

My Spartan locks up as tight as my Demko custom.

The Spartan is a big, stout folder. The biggest I have in my collection. I have carried it but it takes up a lot of pocket real estate. It is very strong and I would not hesitate to get another since really it's very inexpensive......

The demko tri ad locks are just ridiculous. My American Lawman is EDCed quite a bit just for the lock and the handle design. I really don't have a problem with the AUS 8.

I think I'm going to get another one.

I think that one of the reasons why the same points keep getting brought up is that Cold Steel's advertising attracts a lot of people who are new to the hobby and aren't as aware of other options. It also doesn't help that Cold Steel often misrepresents or even lies to sell their product. As long as people aren't aware that you can get better steel, customer service, build, etc at the same price, people will be around to point that out.

You can get better steel for the same price as an American Lawman, but not a better built knife.

CS has been guilty of being "creative with the truth" at times, but it isn't like Lynn claimed to be Special Forces or anything like that....

CM that is a balls out mod brother!

It felt like it was incomplete so...

Ah, yes, also unacceptable in my eyes. But in the case of Cold Steel, it's more the things they say about their products than the owner. For an example: "Imported Japanese AUS-8A stainless (instead of the cheap steel used by our competitors)" All their competitors have better steel, and I can't think of a cheaper steel than AUS-8A for a quality knife. Then they promote themselves as industry innovators with "our revolutionary Ultra Lock," which is really just a copy of the axis lock. I know they paid royalties, but it still doesn't seem right to pass it off as your own stroke of genius. And for the Paradox, they claim that in California, "the mere possession of a Butterfly knife is a FELONY." I can understand how someone might be confused by the penal code 653K into thinking that having a butterfly knife is a misdemeanor, but claiming that it's a felony is just a blatantly fabricated lie meant to scare people into buying their knife instead of a real balisong. In reality, you can legally own a balisong in California as long as you don't carry it publicly. The only way to rack up a felony is if you commit a crime with one.

Wow, okay I think I have opened up a can of worms.

I didnt expect this post to blow up like this. There is a lot of information here and what not. Lets see here I do own a few knife ranging from Emerson, Spyderco, Kabar, and Gerber.

Yes I know the ESEE-5 is big but that is going with me on camping and hiking on the pack. In the future I see myself getting a ESEE-3mil and maybe a 6.

When it comes to folders I like to have some band for the buck cheaper ones that I wont be super pissed off if I lose it or break it. Also in the future I will be picking up another Spyderco Delica PE with the Emerson wave. I will learn more as I read up on stuff just takes time with anything. Yes I have looked at the ZT's and might pick on up in the near future.
