ESEE 5 Complete Review

Very interesting, thanks.
Is your Esee 5 still working well?
Do you think the OD Green blade color is as durable as the other finishes?
Thanks, see you soon.

The ESEE 5 is indeed still going strong. :)

Have not used the green one as much yet, but it does seem that the coating may be less durable. It seems to be wearing faster than the black did.

Got one of the old skull logo ones in black as well...prys apart logs quiet nicely.

Here is the skull logo one beside a green one disassembled:

I need to get out there to use the green one more to know for sure.

stabman stabman Thanks, I suspected that.
I really like the OD green blade...

Well, can always go the standard Bladeforums route and get two of them. ;)

I have two of the green ones, so one can stay pretty while the other one gets beaten all to hell over time! :D
(Didn't plan it that way, but a previous order that I thought wasn't gonna happen came in, so I had to honour the prior commitment as well. Worked out well though.)

I was trying to see if I could find any. :)
Didn't see any this time though. Wasn't hungry enough to eat them, but would have been neat to find some. 🤔
When we had chickens , they acted like they were the most excitingly delicious thing in the Universe . 🐔

Never personally tried , but it's in the survivalist handbook . 🤷‍♂️

Definitely one of those things I would reserve for a survival situation.
Apparently witchetty grubs from Australia are supposed to taste pretty good...

Looking up what's written about grubs, many say they taste good, and seems they are high in many nutrients.
In the city though I'll stick with something like pasta or stew and a vitamin pill. :D

Well...it's been used more since then...

Zoomed in a bit so you can see where I ground at the base of the blade:

Found that sharpening the serrations was annoying at the base of the blade; this works better. :)

Still prefer the plain edge over the serrated, although the serrations do help saw through rope or other fibrous materials when the rest of the blade has gone dull from use.

After extensive use, I can say that the ESEE 5 is not great at chopping. Blade too short for physics to work in your favour.
What it is though is an indestructible beast you can bet your life on, that will fit in/on a pack if length constraints are an issue.
You can cut, chop, baton, pry and dig till your arms fall off, and it will still be fine.

As I've shown, it will cut what you need to cut, and will survive what borders on just plain stupid levels of abuse.

So its Bomb proof pretty much....😉 save the butter knife edge..😜

The edge retention is better than I had initially expected due to what people say, but it does dull faster than a "super steel" run at high hardness.

That one is currently sharp enough to be truly scary...but still cuts onions into ugly wedge pieces due to blade grind. ;)
