ESEE-5 in 0.188" thick...

It would be great if ESEE made the 5 in .188 and .25 just for the option, as for me I like my ESEE 5 just the way it is.

pretty much, I've brought this up before and this was the general response, coupled with the fact that the RC4 and RC6 are just fine at covering the niche.

That's sort of what I'm thinking...I'm thinking about adding a divot to the handle of my RC-4... just have to find the right bit, and I know I'll add one to the ESEE-6 when I get it. I like the looks of the ESEE-5 and all, but since using the RC-4, Izula, and RC-3 so much I'm really sort of hung up on the flat grind. I think the ESEE six is close enough in size to the ESEE-5 that I'll be perfectly happy with it and the 4, and the 3...and the Izula...and the HEST :D.

Oh hell..who am I kidding, I'll probably never be happy untill I have them all, with multiples of some, and disperse them all into different kits :)

.

Good thoughts all. Personally, I'd like to see an ESEE 5 lite, make it the same as the 6. I'd like to see a thinner Izula, maybe .125. I can't comment on the ESEE 4 since I don't have one....yet. The ESEE 3 is just fine the way it is:)

Flat grind would definitely be my preference on a 5 Lite as IUKE called it, lol. No reason for a saber grind, etc. on a 3/16" blade.

I think that the RC5 was made perfectly.

Why would you need the RC5/ESEE5 in a .20 or.188 thickness when you have the RC4 RC3 and RC6? The RC5 was built as an a$$ kicking, tough as nails/pry open nuclear silo doors knife....It is the perfect hard use knife.

It wasnt intended as a bushcraft knife..thats what the RC3 and RC4 are for.It was intended to be jack of all trades , master of none.

If SH*T ever hit the fan, you would be thankful for the extra girth on the RC5 if you had one..its like having cash in the bank to spend.. you may not need to use it, but its there if you need it

I use thick knives all the time, i apply learning bushcraft skills with them even though that isnt thier intended purpose....YES it is easier to make a featherstick with a RC3,4 or6...but practice makes perfect, and anything i can do with my RC4 i can do with my RC5.

If i had ANY say in it, i wouldnt make an RC5 in a thinner version.

You dont like the 5? buy somthing else. The 5 is purpose built...and it fulfills that purpose well.

I own a 3, 4 and 6, all excellent knives. The 5 is probably one of the sexiest blades in the ESEE lineup. I enjoy discussing new product ideas and theory, even when it generates some mild cases of sand-gina.

Fans, users and the general public always talks about what could be different in something. So it's normal. And besides there is always gonna be a critic. It's the easiest job in the world. I mean we all do it from time to time...

I have the 6...yay, it just came. I am very impressed. That'll be a woods knife. I'd leave the 5 as a special purpose knife, might get it with serrations, and use it to tear, chop, hack, and otherwise cut myself out of a fix. Be a good knife to have handy if one were hiding in a closet during a tornado.

hide. in. a. closet. during. a. tornado?
DOOOD! you miss all the fun that way!
climb a tree or sit on a barn roof to watch it go by, otherwise you miss out on all the cool lightning.

The -5 is an awesome tornado knife. You can tie off to it with some 550 cord and drop it on the ground as an anchor so you don't blow away. I love mine!

that's wuss talk! get a junglas or a lite machete and try to cut that sucker in half :p

I am a long time Busse user and a new ESEE user. I love the performance of the Busse knives I have/had and have used them hard. But recently I sold off my Busse NO-E to buy an ESEE RC-5. Both are tanks but the RC-5 just felt better in hand. I always like to go with the knife that feels best and that I know I will use. So if the Busse feels better I'd pay the extra $$$ (within reason). Can't go wrong either way. :)

I have one of the old RAT 5's which is the same thickness as the 4 & 6. I have to say I haven't held one of the RC-5's, but love the weight feel of the RAT @ 5". Might be very interested in a RC-7 at .25

Sounds like a good idea. Or a Choilless longer handled RC4. Either would sell well in my opinion.

i'd buy a no choil version of the 3 & 4.

X2. I am not a big choil fan and that's why I like the RC-5 a lot. However, I do have a 3 & 4 just to round out my collection a bit. Can a 6 be far off? :D
